Ten years since the Iraq War protests

Did any of you go on any of the marches around the country against the Iraq War in 2003?  I was out in Kendal with probably 2000 or more people protesting, all with home-made banners and home-made chants.  It was an inspiring collection of people, there was such a feeling of unity against the impending ridiculousness and tragedy of the Iraq War.  ( Read more... )

Hey I went to the London one by myself as well! :)
I can't believe it's been 10 years, we thought stuff was effed up back then, look at us now... sigh.

It sounds like it was a good demo to be on if you were on your own as there was such a diversity of people attending.

I know, it's just so depressing how fucked up things are, and I feel more powerless now than I did then.

I was on the march in London. And I totally agree about the protests we need now about the things the coalition are doing to us. I live in hope/fear that there will be one final affront that no-one can possibly ignore and that everyone will at that point rise up and take to the streets in their millions...

I do wonder what it would actually take to get people out on the streets again. This government is more offensive than the Thatcher govt which is saying something. It's just so aggressively uncaring, it laughs at poverty and disability, treats the poor and low waged like criminals and just gives more and more and more to the rich. I hate them so much.

I went to one of the marches in London - not the really big one but the one before. It was Whitby goth weekend and I got up at 7am to drive back to York, get the train down to meet friends; left London at 3 and was in Whitby and out clubbing by 9.

Sometimes you need to go along to these things just for the statement and not because everyone else is.

Wow, you and inbetween_girl put me to shame! I had started a new job the week before and couldn't face the trip in a coach down to London. I'm happy that I saw how it was done in a small town though, as the cities were covered by the media, and as far as I know, there were protests like the one I attended in so many towns up and down the country.
