Drabble: Happy Ones #3

Rating: PG

Disclaimer: I really don’t know them. Honest.

Summary: Number three from my happy folder.

Note: This was inspired by the song “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon. But I also like Tyler Hilton’s piano version of it. So hit the ‘play’ button, and enjoy! And Happy NEW YEAR!

He was surprised when she sat up and smiled at him.

“Hey baby,” he whispered, as he flicked off the bathroom lights and their hotel room darkened to a quiet blue hush.

He padded across the carpeted floor and gladly took the place that she had just vacated, reveling in the warmth that her body had provided. She fluffed up the space next to him, settling her head and spreading pretty brown curls all over the white pillows.

He fingered one of the loops in her curls, feeling softness that rivaled the most expensive Egyptian cotton sheet. “What are you doing still up?”

“ I heard you came in.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.” She smiled and tucked her arms underneath her pillows. “How was the press conference?”

“Same as always,” he shrugged and she understood.

“Well two more cities, and we’ll be done.” Taking one of his hands in her small one, she kissed the back of his palm.

He reciprocated the movement and cradled her dainty hand against his chest. “Thank you for coming with me. I know you have better things to do.”

“ I was getting bored in L.A. anyways. Plus, I’ve never really experienced Europe.”

“I see how it is. I’m out there slaving away in front of the media while you stroll around the city, taking in the sights and drinking wine.” He chuckled when she pinched the skin underneath her fingertips.

“Just be glad I haven’t gotten sick of you yet and run off with a beautiful Italian male model.” She mockingly threatened.

He let out another chuckle before bringing her closer, his arm sweeping away her curls and securing her against his chest.

“Go to sleep sweetheart,” he whispered and squeezed her just a bit tighter, the thought of letting go momentarily forgotten.

She wound her legs around his and muttered a soft goodnight. The sound of her breathing evened out quickly, and he immediately knew that he didn’t wake her up when he came back. She had been waiting for him.

He brushed a soft kiss against her forehead, sighing in relieved that she was indeed still here after all these years.

She didn’t need to follow him to Europe. He knew there’s a potential script laying on her desk back in L.A. But there she lay, always warm and constant even as they move from city to city, from different hotel’s bed to another, he would always smell the same peach conditioner on her hair and the simple Vaseline lotion skin against his body as he lay to sleep.

Every night had been a new city in his promotional tour, but he was glad that every night he could truly say that he came back to Kristen. To the one place that he’d always call home.
