Military advertising WTF.

I saw Avatar today, and before I go into a little tirade about military advertising, I'd like to say first and foremost that the movie itself was incredible, just beautifully done. The CGI of course was gorgeous, but the story and characters were also top-notch. I've not had that much fun with an action/adventure movie in years. We saw the 3D ( Read more... )

I liked Avatar- I just STILL felt it was to cliche. I mean it was it was like Dances with Wolves meets Pocahontas in space...but anyway I think I'm having an issue because they hyped it as it was going to be epic and groundbreaking. I felt it was good just not that good.

Well, like most films, there were cliched aspects, but overall I think it was about as original as anything in the genre can be, and certainly better than most of the sci-fi/fantasy crap Hollywood churns out based on shitty books *cough*Twilight*cough*. I mean, there is nothing groundbreaking anymore; everything's been done. To expect otherwise is unrealistic, though I don't doubt that advertising suggested otherwise (I wouldn't know as I don't see many movies in theaters or watch TV), that's their job, to spend 30% of the film's budget convincing potential viewers that what the studio's producing will be life-changing. Marketing is never accurate, just look how WB screwed Watchmen ( ... )

I mean to me- they were talking up this movie like it was to rival Lord of the Rings- that's how epic it was supposed to be ( ... )

I saw it last night in Imax and oh god it was so beautiful! I almost hated to leave the theater because that world was just so incredible.
Cliche story or not I loved it. I cried buckets at the scene when they attacked Treehome.
If I'd seen this movie when I was younger I'd probably be running around half naked in the woods right now. :-P

I think IMAX would have been better than 3D honestly, but there isn't one around here to my knowledge.

I know, I also was sad that it was over, despite my bladder being at the bursting point from not being able to tear self away to relieve myself during the movie. XD I haven't enjoyed myself at a movie that much in years!

I did start to tear up a bit at that part too, but I don't think I've ever let myself truly cry in a movie theater, not even Titanic, and my mom was bawling, haha.

Haha, oh I know what you mean. I want to ride a dragon-thing in a loin cloth! LOL!
