That is so funny, the photo of the bee butt. I got a shot like that yesterday jsut as a big bumble was diving into a hosta flower. :)

I literally have freed as many as 6 honey bees from a single flower, good thing I love eating the squash blossoms. They jst get so greedy over the male flower's pollen.

Wow! I've grown squash etc. for over 40 years and never had a bee trapped in a blossom! You must have some very carnivorous plants there. *L*

Actually I usually find bees in my squash blossoms, well the male ones. I've found as many as 6-7 bees in each one. I eat the blossoms so I find the ones with trapped bees and release them.

I can't remember ever hearing of finding bees inside squash blossoms but I have seen bumblebees that seemed asleep on coneflowers during early dawn. Perhaps your bees were caught out at twilight and they simply decided to spend the night only to have the flower close up on them that night?

I'm sure that's exactly what they are up to. They get greedy for more and more pollen and then they get stuck at about 3pm when the flower closes up.
