Bizarre Trekkie Romance

It's most interesting how the new Star Trek movie has introduced many fans to these wacky pairings for fanfiction. Some of the Original Series fanfiction was bizarre enough, with pairings like Kirk and Chapel and Bones and Scotty. Now I am seeing Bones and Uhura and Kirk and Chekov as well Spock and Chekov

An interesting thing about modern fandom is the tendency to ship everyone with everyone as an exercise in hotness, ridiculousness, or just plain fannishness. People are still interested in discussing and writing ships that make sense based on canon, they just don't limit themselves to it. Frequently called 'crack' :)

It's always interesting to me to see a writer take a pairing that makes little to no sense in canon and make it *work* in fic (without going out of character).

Kirk/Spock is one of the few ships I have a hard time breaking up to read other fics, though I think there's a strong case for Kirk/Bones in the new canon.

I rather like Kirk/Bones in the new fandom. In the Original, though ...

And Kirk/Spock is of course sort of a given.
