Problems with "Jane Eyre"

"Jane Eyre" was of course amazing. I think a lot of you feel that way. And by all means ... you should. 'Cause it is.

It's wondrous and beautiful and creepy.

But I felt like it was missing something, or like there was something flat-out WRONG with it. And here are my thoughts:

Human beings are inconsistent, Emily. From that point of view, Jane is fully credible. India must be a fancy, a dream. She has no real notion of what it must per force be like, let alone have the means to go there (unless selling herself into slavery, as poor European - mostly Irish - used to in order to be able to migrate to America).

This is quite true. I just felt like she had more of a solid self-foundation to know India would not have suited her own needs and desires. Human beings are quite inconsistent, yes - but Jane taking such a mental leap like that left the novel with a feeling of erraticism.
