I've had a pretty dull set of characters there. Soldier guy was...well...a generic middle-of-the-road soldier guy. He also seemed the most capable character the game offered me. Healing girl seemed a bit pointless without a functional team, so I never tried her. Tank guy was a fairly big disappointment. He had a laser that appeared to have a shorter range than its graphics showed and didn't seem particularly impressive on damage, and a charge skill that tended to get him killed. The shield he had was nice, but the recharge time was bad and sometimes it seemed to want to set itself in a different direction that I wanted. Annoying "upper class British or something" robot ultimately played like another generic pew pew character, just with a grenade skill that fired like a gun instead of being thrown like a grenade. And I never tried the mascot thing.
Characters in the shop looked more interesting. And looked to play more interesting, from what I've seen of videos.
