Have you checked to see how much a year of dental insurance costs compared to whatever it is you need done?

If you could somehow manage it, you really need insurance of some sort.

most insurance companies require 6 months after purchasing before you can use it

Dental insurance is pretty cheap - a lot of people offer it as low as $5 a month. It doesn't cover much beyond the basic cleanings, but it's something most people can live with.

my mom's a dental hygenist - the most interesting story she told me was from one of their patients... he was an orphan and once he turned 18, he had to figure out how to do things on his own. He couldn't afford to pay for dentistry. He had gotten some unusual advice from a dentist he was panhandling. He took it.

He went to the nearest prison and found out when the dentist was in. He met with the guy, explained that he had no money, and needed some cavities filled and was just short of committing crime to get them filled. He got the dentist to agree to give him some free care. It's amazing how creative people are.

Have you asked the dentists you're calling about recommendations for dentists that will take patients without insurance?
