Battle of the Mins Chapter 3

Jun 30, 2011 18:58

“Fuck…” Taemin muttered to himself as he stepped inside his new (tiny) office on the twelfth floor of the CM building. He had unloaded all his stuff in the room yesterday night but he hadn’t quite fathomed how much crap he had amassed in five years in the business. He was already getting a headache thinking about opening and sorting through all the boxes lying around the small space. And plus, he was not a happy camper at 8am in the morning.

“At least there’s a good view,” he said to himself, opening up the blinds to the large window in the back of the room to see a bird’s eye view of the busy Seoul downtown.

Just as he was putting one hand on his hip-cocked to the side as per usual-to survey the contents of his office he heard a jovial voice.

“Do you need any help?”

Taemin peered over the pile of boxes on his new desk, giving an once-over to the man smiling in front of him. In a nondescript tee shirt and jeans and a plain beanie squashing down his hair-he probably didn’t wash it, Taemin assumed-he looked like any other kid that wandered in off the streets: definitely not the type of person hanging around the building of an elite entertainment company.

When Taemin merely stared at him rather than responding, the guy smiled even wider and put up his hands jokingly, “Don’t worry I work here. I just thought you might need a hand with all those boxes.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Taemin told him with a sickly sweet smile. He turned his back on the stranger. Though he seemed nice enough and his face was even what some people would describe as cute, his eyes had a sparkle to them as they looked upon him with unhidden interest.

Taemin hated that look.

Undeterred the guy stuck out his hand towards Taemin, “My name is Lee by the way. I’m assuming you’re new here considering I would have remembered a pretty face like yours.”

Taemin rolled his eyes and ignored the hand offered to him. Where had he heard that line before?

“Sorry, but I really only go for guys with a Rolex and a sick ride.” Taemin smiled again and pointed toward the propped-open door of his office, “In other words, goodbye.”

+++++++++++++

“Hello, can I sit here?”

Taemin looked up from his textbook upon hearing the deep voice only inches away from where he sat. Surely enough, staring down at him with a slight smile tugging at the corners of his lips was one of the most handsome guys on campus. Taemin even knew his name. Choi Minho.

“S-sure,” Taemin finally managed to reply, clearing away the books that littered the table. He looked around him in the café and at this hour it was nearly empty save a handful of people here and there. Considering the abundant number of empty tables in his vicinity, he found it odd that Choi Minho, of all people Choi Minho, was choosing to sit by him. Although he definitely wasn’t complaining.

“My name’s Minho. Choi-”

“I know!” Taemin blurted out without thinking. Taemin blushed upon realizing his mistake but Minho merely raised an eyebrow and then grinned.

“Well, I’m glad I can skip my James Bond introduction then. Except I don’t know your name…”

“Lee Taemin,” he replied a bit more slowly this time and then bit his lip. He wasn’t usually this socially awkward but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t a bit anxious in the presence of one of the most popular boys on campus. Even though it had only been two weeks since he started university, he already knew the reputation of Minho who had not only the looks but was also the son of the owner of a famous entertainment company. In other words, for girls at their university, Choi Minho was the newest hot commodity on the market.

And Taemin couldn’t help but succumb.

He was neither so young nor so naive to ignore the sense that Minho had an interest in him. Whether it was in the way Minho leaned forward to gaze into his eyes as they talked or the way he laughed good-naturedly though Taemin knew for a fact his own jokes were never very funny. Gazing back at this figure of perfection before him, Taemin wondered what it would like to be in love with him. To be loved by him.

After what felt like hours of conversation, Minho picked up one of Taemin’s textbooks lying around and started flipping through it casually.

“Design?”

Taemin nodded with a soft smile as Minho let out a low whistle, “Wow, this stuff is all gibberish to me, I don’t know how you do it.”

Taemin laughed, “Well I don’t think I would understand any of your business ‘gibberish’ either.”

Minho was quiet for a moment as he continued to look through the book and feeling a bit antsy, Taemin started to organize the school materials that were strewn across the table. From the corner of his eye he thought he saw Minho scribble something on to the page Taemin had bookmarked earlier.

Rising to go, Minho smiled at him meaningfully with the parting words, “Study hard.”

Taemin waited until Minho had left the café before scrambling to open up his textbook to the bookmarked page.

It was his number. With a smiley face next to it. How cute.

As he unconsciously clutched his textbook to his chest with a stupid grin, Taemin thought that with a guy like Minho, he really could be happy.

+++++++++

Minho was doing it again. He couldn’t quite help it but unconsciously his eyes were drifting over to the pretty blonde sitting at the far end of the table. When Taemin caught Minho staring, he winked. Damnit…

Minho tried to pay attention to Jonghyun’s voice that was going through the basics of Lee Jinki’s planned concept. Jinki’s biggest merit is his wide smile and “boy-next-door” charm but what we’re going to do is show the dark nature that could lie behind even the cute neighborhood oppa…Minho was tuning him out again as his eyes settled again upon his ex-lover.

The main problem was that Taemin was just as attractive as he was before. No scratch that, he was more attractive. There was the fact that he was an adult now but instead of growing up manlier, it was like he blossomed even more to become prettier than Minho had ever imagined. And it wasn’t just that he was pretty, there was an added edge to him that he had certainly lacked in there university years. A kind of dangerous, sexy charm that turned Minho on as much as he resented it…the way he pursed his full lips just like he was doing now made Minho wonder how that would feel around his dick…to come to think of it, when they dated before, Taemin had never given him ora-

“Boss? What do you think?”

Minho snapped back to reality as he gazed at Jonghyun who was frowning at him. When he looked over at Taemin he saw the culprit for his present predicament slowly smile at him wickedly. It made him feel like a young boy caught jacking off in a church. Damn that Taemin.

Minho cleared his voice awkwardly, “Yes, very well. I trust your decision in this as well.”

Jonghyun gave him a strange look but continued in his explanations anyway. Minho inwardly groaned. It was not only sick and wrong to be thinking of sex during a work meeting but more so to be thinking of his ex-boyfriend in that way.

“We’ll actually have Jinki in here any moment now so that we can have some of his input on a few of these things. And I know some of our newest additions like Taeminssi here, are eager to meet him.”

++++++++++

“Anyeonghaseyo. My name is Lee Jinki. I look forward to working with everyone here. Please take good care of me!”

One minute Taemin was busy fucking with Minho’s head and the next he thought his heart was going to explode from beating on overtime. That was Lee Jinki?? Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck…

While Taemin could only stare open-mouthed at the stylishly dressed young man who was bowing before the staff, that said man was already making his way over to the conference table, sitting in the only remaining open seat. Right next to him.

“Remember me?” Jinki whispered to him with a wink. Taemin wanted to die.

Taemin didn’t remember how the rest of the meeting went. He couldn’t even remember how his own fucking presentation went before Minho was adjourning the meeting and the different staff members were getting up to go.

He was barely aware of Minho glaring at him from across the room as he fumbled to pick up all his presentation materials and exit the room as fast as possible. Just as he haphazardly scooped everything in his bag and thought he speedily made his getaway, he heard someone call his voice from behind him.

“Taeminssi.”

Taemin slowly turned around to see Lee Jinki standing behind him with a grin going from ear to ear. There was no trace of the dirty street clothes as he was wearing an expensive-looking suit with his hair stylishly gelled up.

Taemin smiled a bit awkwardly, “You look…different from earlier.”

Jinki shrugged, “Gotta dress to impress at these kinds of meetings, I guess.”

Taemin only smiled weakly in return, his body already itching to get out of this situation. Sensing his discomfort, Jinki only smiled wider and walked over to clap Taemin on the back good-naturedly. “It’s okay, I wasn’t too offended by what you said to me.”

As Jinki started to walk away, he called out behind him with his signature wink, “And I’ll make sure you eat those words when I make it big!”

Taemin sighed. Yup, he definitely felt that headache coming on.
