“Go out with me Kim Jaejoong.”
Jae was silent.
“And your boyfriend seems like an ass anyway…” Yunho muttered.
With Yunho’s last statement Jae’s emotions seemed to flare again, “Don’t talk about him like that! You don’t even know him.”
Yunho was starting to get a little frustrated with Jaejoong’s stubbornness. “Well, what’s your reason for defending him? Just the sole fact that he’s your boyfriend? The way I see it is he’s really impatient and jealous…and just an asshole!”
But Jae wouldn’t listen to him. “I love Janghyuk and he loves me, don’t try to break us up because he’s really important to me.”
With that he turned around and walked into the restaurant without a further goodbye. Damn, this is harder than I thought, Yunho thought to himself.
“I’ll you call you, baby…” Yunho’s voice rang listlessly in the emptiness of the restaurant doorway.

[Hey how are you doing]
[This is Yunho by the way if you already deleted my number…]
[I’m really sorry about the other day]
[Friends??]
[Yes?? No??]
[I really am sorry…]
Sending useless texts that would never be replied to was how Yunho was spending his Monday morning class on Structural Design.
He sighed and laid his phone flat on the desk and stared intensely at the screen that refused to light up. He usually didn’t see Jaejoong on the weekdays anyway but just the fact that he had a means to communicating with him was driving him crazy, albeit it being a one-sided communication.
When his phone did light up Yunho grasped at it frantically, only to be disappointed.
[Dude lunch at 12. Greenleaf café.]
Yunho sighed. It was Changmin. Yunho sent him a reply noncommittally. He tried to focus on the blackboard but the only thing his mind could think of was white skin, red lips, big eyes…

“Yunho over here!” Changmin beckoned to him from the back of the café. Yunho pushed through all the people who had come to eat at the most popular dining spot on campus.
Next to Changmin was a boy Yunho didn’t recognize. Due to his duties as Vice President of the Student Council, President of the Future Lawyers Association, and member of various clubs (all things Yunho was too lazy to do) Changmin really had a wide variety of friends. The boy Changmin brought along was really cute with oddly creased eyes and a bird-like mouth.
“Yunho, say hello! This is Kim Junsu, the newest addition to the student council. He’s in charge of arts and media. And he’s only a freshman.” Changmin looked at Junsu proudly.
Yunho smiled, “Hi, I’m Jung Yunho. I’m an architecture major and a senior. You can call me Yunho sunbae.” Yunho winked.
The boy, Junsu, smiled widely in a grin that showed all his teeth. “Nice to meet you sunbae! I’m a graphic design major. Please take care of me!” He’s so cute, in a little kid kind of way, Yunho thought to himself.
After ordering their food Changmin initiated the conversation. “Busy these days Yunho?”
Yunho shrugged, “You know how it is. Same as ever I guess.”
Changmin looked at him slyly, “Any progress with Kim Jaejoong?”
Yunho was about to answer but Junsu chirped first, “Oh Kim Jaejoong is my sunbae in the art club!”
Yunho cocked an eyebrow, “Really?”
Junsu nodded in earnest. “He’s famous for all the emotion he puts into his work. I respect him a lot.”
Yunho smiled, “What is he like?”
Junsu put his finger to his lips in thought, “Well, he’s kind of quiet and soft-spoken. But he’s super nice and pretty too! I think half the girls and guys in that club have a crush on him.” Junsu added as an afterthought, “They’re too scared to approach him because of his boyfriend though.”
Yunho sighed half-wistfully, “So you get to see him a lot huh? Maybe I should join art club…the drawing aspect of architecture is busting my balls anyway…”
Junsu giggled, “Do you like Jaejoong sunbae too? We work together a lot on exhibitions and different projects.” He paused, “I think you have to be in the arts department to join the club though…”
Yunho just nodded listlessly and slumped his body on the table. “Yeah, I got his number somehow but he never answers me back…probably that damn boyfriend’s fault.”
“I don’t like his boyfriend very much. I think Jaejoong sunbae deserves so much better!” Junsu seemed downright indignant.
“Tell me about it,” Yunho sighed.
Junsu seemed to take pity on Yunho, “Well….if you really like him that much maybe I can help you out.” He dug through his bag and pulled out his phone. “I have Jaejoong sunbae’s address in the club directory…”
Yunho immediately raised his body off of the café table. “Really?? Can I have it??”
Changmin who had been listening this whole time tried to intervene, “Hey I don’t know if that’s the best id-”
But Yunho ignored him, “Thanks Junsu, I owe you one.” He entered Jaejoong’s address into his phone.
Junsu looked a little hesitant, “Your welcome. His boyfriend might be around though, just to let you know.”
Yunho shrugged, “I’ll be careful. Hey I think I’ll go ahead and leave today, I have some things to do.”
Without further hesitation Yunho got up from the table.
“Hey the food didn’t even come out yet!” Changmin protested.
Yunho smiled, “More for you than. I’ll pay you back later. See you around Junsu.”
Waving his hand behind the shoulder Yunho was already leaving the café. Behind him he could hear Changmin yelling “How dare you disrespect the sanctity of the food!” and Junsu yelling “Yunho sunbae fighting!”
Yunho looked at the address typed into his phone: 617 Morning Star Apartment Complex. He recognized the apartment building Jae lived in because it wasn’t too far from the school or his own apartment. He had to work in the afternoon but he could visit Jaejoong in the evening. Wait then why did I dash out of the café just now? Yunho wondered to himself. But he had too much pride to go back into the café again. Sometimes he himself didn’t even understand why he acted the way he did.
***
It was around 9pm when Yunho got off of work that day. On his way to Jaejoong’s apartment he stopped by the grocery to buy a bouquet of roses. Jaejoong would surely forgive me if I went this far…
It was already pitch black outside as Yunho walked down the streets of Seoul with his bouquet in hand. Jihae, your oppa finally found someone he really likes… Yunho smiled to himself a little sadly.
Yunho remembered back when Jihae was almost completely immobile and she had to stay bedridden. She could still talk, however, and Yunho spent all his free time by her side. She often talked of her hopes, her dreams, and her future, no matter how futile it all seemed. She always said she wanted to get married when she was in her mid twenties and always teased Yunho about never settling down with anyone. She had cared a lot about Yunho, always urging him to bring his girlfriend to visit her. But Yunho was never able to do that.
Yunho had girlfriends in the past but it never got really serious. He was the type to let people go when relationships got too messy. For the first time now, Yunho felt really strongly about someone else, to the point that he would give his everything to make the relationship work. And this person was a guy, no less. Yunho only wished Jihae was still alive. He would definitely have taken Jaejoong to see her.
When Yunho got to the apartment complex he took a deep breath and pushed the door into the lobby. He pushed the elevator button and waited. Briefly the elevator doors swung open and a young couple was walking out.
“Those two are always so loud! I never know if it ever reaches the point where we should call the police.”
“Well it’s not our problem. I wish they would shut up once in a while though.”
The couple walked away, complaining loudly to themselves. Yunho didn’t mind them and got into the elevator, pressing the sixth floor button.
In the elevator he silently prayed that Jaejoong would hear him out and open his heart a little. He fiddled with the rose bouquet in his hand.
When he got off on the sixth floor he walked down the hall looking for 617. I’m getting closer, 605, 610, 614…
It was then that Yunho heard a loud crash and a violent rattling. The door of Jaejoong’s apartment was yanked open and a figure staggered out the door and into the hallway. It was Jaejoong.
Yunho dropped his roses in shock.
“Where the fuck do you think you’re going? Get back in here you little bitch.”
