Five boys gathered around one round kitchen table. No one was saying a word.
Yoochun and Jaejoong were sitting together closely in a show of solidarity. Their chairs were a bit closer together to each other than anyone else’s and they were holding hands. Junsu and Changmin were both looking down, scared to meet anyone’s eyes in this foreboding atmosphere. Yunho was merely glaring from across the table at Chunjae, as if they were a major sore in his eye.
Unsurprisingly it was Yunho who broke the silence as he was the one who called the meeting in the first place. He wasn’t one to mince words as he got straight to the point.
“I want you guys to break up.”
Jaejoong looked up and stared Yunho in the eye.
“I talked to you earlier Jae, to no avail it seems.” With that he gave a pointed look to Jaejoong. “But Yoochun, you have to come to reason. You’re relationship with Jae isn’t good for the group. You know that too. So I trust you to make the right decision.”
Both Yoochun and Jaejoong were silent. And the other members were definitely not about to speak out either.
Yunho went on speaking, “Look, I know this is a difficult thing for you two. And I won’t judge your behavior when it’s time to leave this group. But as long as we’re together and living under one household, I think it’s best that we don’t have such relationships between any of us.”
“I still don’t think our relationship is something that will get in the way of our group. We can handle-” Jaejoong spoke up.
“I wasn’t talking to you.” But he was coldly cut off by Yunho who was only staring intensely at Yoochun now.
“So what’s it going to be.”
Yoochun looked like he was thinking deeply and then finally he spoke. “I’m sorry hyung, I really am.”
Yunho cocked an eyebrow arrogantly.
“But I don’t think I can accept your decision. Jae hyung, no Jae, is really important to me.”
Jaejoong widened his eyes a little at Yoochun’s little speech. Yoochun was really going all out in this.
Yoochun opened his mouth to speak again but someone cut him to the chase.
It was Junsu.
“I think as a member I have a say too…” Junsu bit his lip a little and then continued, “Honestly I’m not really sure what will happen with Jae hyung and Yoochun either…but I know I want them to be happy. So Yunho hyung, if it’s worth anything, I want you to know that I’m cool with their relationship.”
With those words he turned to look at Yoochun with a shy smile. It reminded Yoochun of a little puppy who was looking for approval from his owner. Yoochun just stared at Junsu for some time and then looked away.
Yunho didn’t say anything for a while as if he hadn’t expected Junsu to say anything.
Jaejoong secretly smiled in victory and then he turned to the maknae Changmin. “What do you think Changmin?” Jaejoong was almost sure that Changmin wouldn’t protest against him. After all, he was the main cook in the household. For Changmin, decisions in life were always a matter of stomach first.
Changmin reddened and shifted his eyes a little wildly from member to member. “Um well…I don’t know.” In a progressively smaller voice he continued, “I think it’s kind of weird but…I guess I want them to be happy too…” Especially Jaejoong hyung, he thought. Changmin shuddered a little at the thought of making Jae mad. Instead of delicious food he would be on the receiving end of his one touches….
Jaejoong turned to Yunho triumphantly, “See? Everyone is in support of us. Except you. Just because you’re leader doesn’t mean you can override everyone’s wishes.”
Yunho glared at Jaejoong. “Not if everyone’s wishes are completely irrational.” And he turned to Yoochun with a slightly softer tone, “Chun, c’mon. Let’s be reasonable.”
But Yoochun just shook his head resolutely, “I’m really sorry, again. But hyung, I love him. I really do.”
With those words all the heads at the table turned towards Yoochun. Yoochun’s face was solemn as he stared back at Yunho.
Yunho looked slightly shocked at Chun’s words but his face hardened once more.
“Fine,” Yunho muttered. With a loud creak he pushed back his chair and left the table.
All that was left at the table was awkward silence once more.
***
“Hey we’re going to be late! I call the bathroom!”
“Chun’s already in there!”
“Chun I’m coming in!”
Despite the strange recent happenings in the Dong bang household, life had to go on and the boys were struggling to keep up with their hectic schedules once more. The next morning they were scheduled for a session in the recording studio starting at 9am.
Jaejoong rushed towards the bathroom where he could hear the faint sounds of the shower running and Yoochun’s voice humming as he always did when he was in the bathroom. Knowing Yoochun never locked the door of any room, ever, Jaejoong yanked the bathroom door open. Right as he was about to close it again a foot came out of nowhere and edged in between the crack of the door.
“What the hell!”
The owner of the foot was no other than Yunho as he shoved the door open wider and squeezed his body into the narrow space. Jaejoong kept pressing on the door, unwilling to let the intruder in but he was no match for Yunho’s strength.
After a moment Jaejoong didn’t even bother trying to give any more force to the door as he just stared at Yunho with raised eyebrows.
“Can I help you?” There was menace in his voice. Suddenly Yoochun’s humming stopped and the only sound that filled the bathroom was the gushing water from the showerhead.
Yunho brushed past Jaejoong towards the sink. As if nothing had happened, he grabbed his blue toothbrush from the sink and took his place in front of the mirror, brushing away at his teeth placidly.
Jaejoong just stood there incredulously.
“Excuse me! I was here first and I need to wash my face! So can you please move your body away from the sink??!”
Yunho continued to brush away at his straight, even teeth as if he hadn’t heard Jaejoong at all. He even leaned closer into the mirror and grasped his chin, turning his face this way and that as if checking himself out.
“You’re kidding me…I said move!!”
In the end Jaejoong couldn’t hold it in anymore and started shoving Yunho away from the sink. Pushing him sideways towards the toilet, Jaejoong stood in front of the mirror and hurriedly grabbed his foam cleanser and squirted some out on his hand.
Before he could even turn on the sink he was shoved out of the way again as Yunho stood in front of the sink once more and spat out the toothpaste foam in his mouth and busied himself with rinsing.
Jaejoong tried to push and shove at Yunho again but he was restrained by one of Yunho’s muscular arms that kept Jaejoong from making any progress.
Feeling an ever growing anger Jaejoong just put his hands on his hips and glared at Yunho from the mirror. Yunho looked up slightly from rinsing and glanced at Jaejoong’s death glare that reflected off the mirror glass. He flinched a little but then continued his movements nonchalantly.
“May I ask why exactly you’re acting so childish? I mean clearly you could have waited until I was done washing before you forced your way in here!”
Yunho wiped his mouth with a towel and finally turned towards Jaejoong.
“I did some thinking last night.”
“God forbid.”
“And I decided that if you and Yoochun refuse to break up, I will add at least one mandate to this relationship.”
Jaejoong raised an eyebrow, “Which is?”
“Constant surveillance.”
“What???”
Yunho’s face was smug as he crossed his arms and looked down at Jaejoong. “I decided I’m fine with you and Yoochun being together, just as long as there’s always someone with you guys making sure you guys don’t make any trouble.”
Jaejoong narrowed his eyes at Yunho.
“And who better than me to do the job? I’m sure you guys will love having me around in all your little dates.”
If the laser beams shooting from Jaejoong’s eyes were real, Yunho would be in searing pain right now.
At that point, the water coming from the shower stopped and shortly after Yoochun came out of the stall with a towel wrapped around his waist.
“Sounds good to me, hyung!” He said cheerfully, putting a wet, drippy arm around Jaejoong’s shoulders.
Yunho seemed a little taken aback at the response and Jaejoong fixed his glare on Yoochun instead. “Chun, what are you saying?”
Yoochun shrugged, “What, it’s not like we have anything to hide.” With those words, he hugged Jaejoong to his chest tighter. Jaejoong whimpered a little like a cat, disliking the moisture from Yoochun’s body getting on his clothes.
Yunho merely narrowed his eyes at the two.
“Bathroom is not excluded. So I suggest you two do your business quick. Oh and furthermore you guys aren’t allowed to be anywhere in the house alone either.”
Jaejoong sputtered in outrage, “Are you kidding me?? That’s an invasion of privacy! And what ‘trouble’ are you even talking about??”
Yoochun chuckled at Jaejoong’s words, “Isn’t that obvious Jae? Something like this.”
With that he leaned down and stole a kiss from Jaejoong’s still-parted lips.
“Mmphhh!!”
Jaejoong pushed Yoochun away and he whipped his head back and forth between Chun and Yunho, not sure who he wanted to glare at more.
He started with Yoochun. Jabbing a finger at his still dripping chest Jaejoong hissed menacingly, “You! No more surprise attacks in the future!”
And then he turned to Yunho, “And you! How dare you treat us like we’re some kind of sex-crazed animals!”
Yunho shrugged arrogantly, “I call it like it is. I don’t want you guys expressing your lust for each other all over the place. You know the dangers of it in public but in the house too. Junsu and Changmin don’t deserve that. Junsu’s too innocent and Changmin…him having a porn problem as it is, he doesn’t have to see that stuff live.”
Though Jaejoong could see the logic of Yunho’s statements, and he most certainly didn’t want to do that stuff with Yoochun anyway, he still couldn’t help feeling outraged by Yunho’s gall to try to control them. For some reason, though he didn’t care about the issue one way or the other, he felt the need to stand up for his human rights.
“There’s no law saying two people in love have to act like freaking monks! It’s only natural to express love physically!”
Yunho’s eyes seemed to burn into Jaejoong’s, “Believe it or not, that’s not the only way people express their love.”
Before Jaejoong could even respond Yunho was shoving Yoochun’s body out of the bathroom and following him out, “C’mon, go get dressed Romeo.”
The two left and the bathroom door closed with a resounding bang.
Jaejoong was left in the middle of the bathroom, his hand still doused with cleanser and Yunho’s last words running through his head.
