“Dude, take it easy on the drinks will ya?”
Yunho ignored Changmin as he surveyed the people shaking their bodies under the flashing lights of the club dance floor. His one hand was around a shot glass (his eighth one that night, last time he checked) and his other hand on the bar counter, fingers strumming impatiently to the beat of the bass-heavy music.
“Seeya later Minnie.”
Yunho got up from his seat and left an anxious-looking Changmin behind. He wasn’t oblivious to the fact that Changmin was clearly worried for him after all that happened with Jaejoong. But it had already been a week since he’d seen him and tonight he just wanted to have fun. He was clearly buzzed from the drinks so he was already halfway there. Now he just needed some company.
Yunho started moving to the music and it wasn’t long before different pairs of eyes started to follow him, consisting of the seductive gazes of the women and the jealous glares of their partners. For Yunho, checking out women at a club was like sifting through coal for that rare diamond. The sheer quantity of women made it hard to find the really special one; but once he found her it was always worth the wait.
Random girls came and went, sidling their bodies against Yunho’s provocatively. But none of were really worth a second look until he found the one. More accurately, she found him.
“Hello, handsome.” A sultry voice whispered in his ear from behind.
As Yunho turned away, he felt a slow smile spread across his face at the sight before him. She was perfect, simply gorgeous, with cascading black waves and a sleek body line she showed off with a black halter dress that was sexy but not trashy. And then there were those eyes…piercing eyes that were centered right on him.
“Hey…” Yunho moved closer to the girl and like magic the two fell naturally into a rhythm as their bodies seemed to mesh together in a fluid wave. Though Yunho felt a strangely guilty twinge as he laid his hands on the girl’s hips, he ignored it and concentrated on dancing.
Yunho leaned his head down to speak into the girl’s ear. As he did so, he got a whiff of her hair. He was surprised by the scent of some fruity shampoo rather than dizzying perfume.
“What’s your name?”
The girl just flashed a smile at him, a smile that made her look much younger than her initial impression and merely shook her head, continuing to dance.
Time flew by into the early morning. Yunho and his mystery girl danced up a storm as their bodies rocked together in unison. It was right when Yunho was about to suggest that they go out for a breather that the girl grabbed his hand and headed for the exit of the club.
The girl was breathing a little heavily and sweaty as they walked out of the club but she was still beautiful as she squeezed Yunho’s hand that she was holding before she let it go.
“You’re not bad out there,” The girl pushed Yunho a little playfully with a wink.
Yunho shrugged, “You’re not so bad yourself.”
The girl smiled but didn’t say anything else as she turned towards the road and started to wave one arm until a taxi came to a stop in front of them.
“Where you going? Am I coming with you?” Yunho said half-jokingly.
“Home,” The girl replied simply. She added with a slight giggle, “And that would be a no.”
Yunho opened the cab door for her, he was at least that much of a gentleman after all. But he watched her go with some sense of disappointment. He hadn’t exactly come out that night with a one night stand in mind but he would be lying if he said he didn’t feel a bit put out.
Before getting in, the girl turned to him again with the same smile from earlier, the one that seemed to give a glimpse of the person she was apart from the party girl that was out at the club.
“Sorry, it’s just that I don’t do the whole direct trip from the club to the hotel thing,” Taking one look at Yunho’s face, and determining that he looked properly chagrined, she took a pen out of her purse and grabbed Yunho’s arm, scribbling onto it.
“If you really wanna know my name, call me up tomorrow.” As she got into the cab, she called out behind her shoulder, “Take me out to lunch!”
Yunho watched the car drive away with some amusement, gently rubbing the engrained print on his skin.
++++++
The girl’s name turned out to be Lee Hyuna and she was a sophomore at Yunho’s university. She didn’t like to party so much as she liked to simply dance, unsurprisingly she was a dance major, and Yunho quickly decided after getting to know her that she really was a nice girl.
One lunch date turned into several and their meetings extended into study dates and dinner dates. There was no awkward transition between strangers and friends, friends and lovers. Everything was just kind of easy and comfortable, whether it was the first time they held hands as they walked around campus together or their first kiss that was shared in the front seat of Yunho’s car as they watched a chick flick at a drive-in movie.
And as Yunho watched Hyuna from across the café table as she told a funny story with exaggerated use of her hands, he thought to himself that maybe this was what he needed all along, a relationship with a nice, pretty, and most of all ordinary girl. Sure maybe he didn’t feel electric sparks bursting in his heart and maybe he occasionally had sudden recollections of a certain gentle smile and soft voice. But it was okay, he reassured himself. He liked Hyuna enough, though he wasn’t sure if he could call it love.
His life was better off this way. Better off without him.
Yunho was able to adjust to his new headache and heartache-free life fairly quickly, falling into the routine of going to school, working, and spending a lot of his time with Hyuna. Changmin couldn’t say anything against his new relationship, it was his first steady one ever really, and dropped the subject of Jaejoong after a few failed attempts to get Yunho to talk.
It was a few weeks after Jaejoong’s hospitalization that Yunho began to see him around campus again. The first time was when Yunho and Hyuna were walking together, holding hands, on their way to the school cafeteria. Jaejoong had been alone that day, still looking tired and thin but relatively recovered. Yunho remembered that initial look of surprise on Jaejoong’s face as his eyes flicked from first Yunho then to Hyuna, then to their hands swinging at their side, fingers interlaced. It was Yunho who pulled along Hyuna and left Jaejoong behind, frozen in his spot. Every time after that whenever Yunho ran into Jaejoong, he just kept walking as if they were strangers.
There was one day that Jaejoong had even attempted to talk to him. Yunho remembered it clearly. He was on his way inside the architecture building for his afternoon class and there was a figure waiting outside of the entrance, one that looked very familiar. As Yunho was about to walk through the main door, a small voice cried out and called his name.
“Yunho…”
Yunho looked to his side to see Jaejoong, still looking as heartbreakingly beautiful as ever. At that point it had been a good two months since the two had spoken and Yunho couldn’t block the rush of tingly warmth that filled him upon hearing that soft voice that he had missed.
“How are you?”
“Good,” Yunho answered curtly.
“Are you…busy right now?” Jaejoong asked him hesitantly, wringing his hands back and forth.
“Actually I am. I have to go to class,” Yunho replied abruptly and turned his back.
“Yunho, wait I-”
However, Yunho didn’t wait to hear the rest of what Jaejoong had to say, simply choosing to walk away without even looking back. He couldn’t give in.
Of course it hurt. There was no denying that. But in all honesty, Yunho was just plain tired. He was tired of trying and tired of caring. It was better to deal with a numb pain in his heart from the loss than to throw himself back to the hell that was his relationship with Jaejoong, a boy who would never love him.
It was definitely a struggle to hold on to this mindset, especially when he saw Jaejoong still together with Janghyuk, the way he still got pushed around and just took it. Especially as of late, Yunho had been hearing rumors, especially from Changmin, as to how bad Janghyuk was getting. Though he had been a violent asshole before, it seemed it was getting to the point that people were starting to call him a psycho. But Yunho just ignored it. Every time he saw the two he merely clenched his teeth and went on his own way. It wasn’t his business anymore.
Yes, life was better now.
+++++++++++++
Against his better judgment, Yunho gave in to the pleadings of Hyuna and found himself out at the club on a Saturday night rather than studying for his final that was on Monday morning. It seemed his plans for a quiet weekend that consisted of him studying like crazy to make up for a semester of slacking off was ruined as he entered the crowded, noisy building with one arm around Hyuna’s waist.
Club Fever was one of the most popular spots for students in downtown Seoul. Already upon entering the club he could see familiar faces, some people attempting to call out greetings over the ear-splitting music.
“Oh Tiffany just texted me! Apparently she and a couple other people are in one of the VIP rooms upstairs! Can we stop by just to say hi? Please??” Hyuna batted her eyes at Yunho and he acquiesced. The two weaved through the crowds towards the stairs and headed upstairs.
The second floor was quieter and twice as dark as their path was lit by nothing more than a few neon bulbs. The thump of the music downstairs still resonated and every so often they could hear a shrill laugh from one of the various VIP rooms in the first hallway they entered.
“I’m pretty sure it’s this room…” Hyuna grabbed the handle of the third door down. As per her nature she swung it open widely calling out cheerfully, “Tiff we’re her-”
The sight in front of them told them this room was clearly not the right one. Hyuna gaped and hurriedly blurted out, “Sorry wrong room!” She hastily turned to go, grabbing Yunho’s arm again.
But what Yunho saw made him stop in his tracks, immobile despite the efforts of an embarrassed Hyuna who was trying to pull him away.
“Jaejoong?”
Though the room was hazy with cigarette smoke, he could still see clearly the outline of a pale face and body, one that was currently sandwiched between two guys who were touching his body everywhere. One guy sitting on the couch had Jaejoong on his lap with one hand buried between Jaejoong’s thighs and another rubbing his chest inside his shirt, while his face was buried in Jaejoong’s neck. The other guy meanwhile held Jaejoong’s head tilted to the side as they made out messily.
That wasn’t all. On the other couch, Janghyuk was making out with some random girl, his hands traveling up her thighs to grip her ass. He paid no attention to Jaejoong in the corner. He also didn’t seem to notice the door opening at all either.
“Hyuna, go wait for me at Tiff’s room.”
Though Hyuna gave Yunho a strange look she must have realized that there was something in his voice that meant she should listen to whatever he said. She went in search of Tiffany without another word.
“Get off of him!’
Yunho marched over to the mass of bodies around Jaejoong and started pulling off the guys who were stuck to Jaejoong like leeches.
“Fuck! What’s your deal??” The two random men started cursing at Yunho but pulled away from Jaejoong fairly easy. Considering they were in severe states of drunkenness it wasn’t hard for Yunho to kick them out of the room. He watched them go, stumbling and cursing all the way but clearly too far gone to protest in earnest.
“And you…” Yunho turned back on Jaejoong, his voice taking a deadly tone it only took when he was especially angry. “How could you even-”
He closed his mouth when he finally took in the sight of Jaejoong. Jaejoong’s shirt, a fairly skimpy looking tank top that looked suspiciously like a girl’s, was pushed and pulled all out of place to reveal the bare expanse of his shoulders and chest. His skinny jeans were unzipped and hanging open and his hair was severely mussed. But what made Yunho take a sharp intake of breath was the fact that Jaejoong was crying, streaming silent tears through unseeing eyes. Yunho hurriedly cupped Jaejoong’s cheek and lifted it up to look at him. Though Jaejoong was crying it seemed almost as though he wasn’t even aware of it, that he wasn’t conscious of really anything for that matter as his eyes were strangely glazed over, pupils unfocused. Also his skin was burning hot to the touch, enough to make Yunho drop his hand away quickly from the sensation. Once Yunho let him go, Jaejoong’s body drooped listlessly on the couch.
“Oh he’ll come around eventually. He’s just having a hard time adjusting right now, that’s all.”
Yunho turned around slowly to see Janghyuk smirking at him from the opposite couch, one arm around the girl who was now kissing him along his neck.
“What did you do to him?”
“Why, are you worried?” Janghyuk had a heavy slur to his voice, indicating how much he had drank as well. He went on, “It’s just a simple little drug, really. Jaejoong was being a bit unruly these days so I gave him something to make him relax, have a little fun with those two hyungs you sent away so ungraciously earlier.”
“He’s your boyfriend.”
Janghyuk shrugged, “I wouldn’t say ‘boyfriend’ per say. More like my dog, my personal bitch. I can do whatever I want to him.”
Though Yunho felt his whole body shaking with anger, he couldn’t bother with beating up Janghyuk right now. He was just concerned about getting Jaejoong out of this place.
He propped up Jaejoong’s listless form and lifted him up in his arms. Jaejoong’s head dropped back weakly. Yunho was surprised once again how light Jaejoong’s body was.
“Playing the hero huh? Well enjoy him while you can. It doesn’t change the fact that he belongs to me.”
Yunho turned around to face Janghyuk again, fixing his narrowed eyes on his hateful face, “What makes you so sure?”
Janghyuk threw back his head and let out an unpleasant laugh that even made the girl next to him cringe a bit. Once his laugh died down, he leaned forward a little towards Yunho with a suggestive grin, “You didn’t know? Should I let you in on a secret?”
Yunho had the feeling he didn’t want to hear whatever would come out of Janghyuk’s mouth as he felt chills run up his arms. But he was frozen in place, transfixed as Janghyuk grinned at him, baring all his teeth.
“Did Jaejoong ever tell you we went to the same high school?”
Yunho nodded curtly, waiting for him to go on.
Janghyuk took a swig of the bottle of hard liquor sitting in front of him and continued, “Man, Jaejoong was hella pretty back in those days. The problem was he was so lofty and shit, as if he was better than everyone else. Even wild horses needed to be broken in. And that’s what I did to Jaejoong, trained him so he’d be eating out of my hand.”
Yunho felt sick to the stomach. But he couldn’t stop listening.
“That idiot Sangkyu was just a pawn in the game. He was just beside himself in excitement with the thought of sticking his dick into Jaejoong. All he needed was that extra push, from me of course, to go through with the deed. It’s a pity that he got Jaejoong’s virginity but hey, I had him countless times after that.”
Janghyuk went on, “The only thing I had to do after that was watch my timing and do a little planning. I swooped into the scene helping Jaejoong, playing the hero, kinda like how you’re doing now. And then all it took was to call in a couple guys to finish off Sangkyu, he was a worthless shit anyway. That was the final peg for Jaejoong. He was always a soft pussy, unable to handle all that guilt.”
Yunho’s arms were trembling but he had to be firm because he was still holding Jaejoong to his chest. If Jaejoong heard all of this, he didn’t know how he would react. Perhaps in part he would feel exonerated from the guilt, considering none of it was his fault in the first place. But on the other hand, it could break him even further.
Yunho turned away, clutching Jaejoong even tighter to him. As he was walking away, he heard Janghyuk call after him:
“Just remember to return him in the morning when you’re done!”
Janghyuk’s hateful words sounded in his ears as he walked out of the VIP room.
++++++++
When Yunho got home, he had ten missed calls from Hyuna but there was no time for him to worry about it right now.
Yunho carried Jaejoong over to his bed and placed him down gently. For a minute he looked down at Jaejoong and brushed the hair out of his face. With a sigh he turned to go, preparing himself mentally for a thorough browbeating from Hyuna.
“Yunho”
But before he could go, he felt a hand gripping the bottom of his shirt and he turned back around to see a still unstable-looking Jaejoong peering up at him. Though his eyes were a lot more focused than before and he appeared fully-conscious, his breathing was still heavy and he was sweating profusely.
“Are you okay? I think you might have a feve-”
Yunho reached out his hand to grip Jaejoong’s forehead but his hand was grabbed by Jaejoong’s own pale, thin hand.
“Yunho please…”
Yunho looked down at Jaejoong worriedly, “Where does it hurt?”
Jaejoong bit his lip and looked like he was about to cry, “Please Yunho, do something.”
Yunho finally understood the “problem” when he looked down at Jaejoong’s lower body, his erection hard, making a tent in his tight jeans. It seemed that the drugs Janghyuk gave him didn’t wear off, not in the least.
“Yunho, please help me.”
