[You know those police officers patrolling Route 34 at night? The jumpy ones? Well...]
-- stop right there!
[Someone just got called out by one, and he sounds rightfully bewildered about it too. Disclaimer: the following conversation is being recorded without knowledge of either party]
... who, me?
Of course you! Do you see anyone else loitering around this late at night?
Loitering? [Here, Kaito sighs, clearly frustrated, but he keeps his tone even and polite (albeit strained)] Look, officer, I'm just passing through to get to Goldenrod--
A likely story! Only hooligans and miscreants act underneath the cover of darkness!
[There's a lengthy pause, where it can be assumed Kaito is giving the officer a 'why me?' look] Do you wanna see my trainer's license or something?
That won't work! It's easy to forge licenses, you see... I'm afraid I'll have to take you down to the station for questioning, boy!
[Clearly incredulous] What?! Are you kidding?
Afraid not, sir! I just want to ask you a few question... such as why you're slinking around so suspiciously!
You can't arrest someone for walking around at night!
I'll need you to put your hands behind your back--
... is this your first night on duty?
[The officer sounds startled when he speaks] Why... yes, it is. How did you know...?
Call it a hunch. [Kaito pats the officer's shoulder, which can be heard over the gear] Look... you seem like a good guy. It's great to be enthusiastic about the law. Someone's gotta go after the bad guys, right?
Why thank you! The boys at the academy said the same thing!
[Kaito's tone drops into sarcasm for a moment] ... right. [and then, cheerfully again] I just wanna say I'm really sorry for what I'm about to do.
Sorry? I don't think I heard you correctly... [There's the sound of feet pounding against the gravel of the trail as Kaito sprints off down Route 34, away from the paranoid officer] HEY! Get back here, you fool!
[... naturally anyone in the general area is free to see Kaito jogging delightfully around Route 34 as he tries to shake his pursuer. It follows that the one time Kaito doesn't do anything wrong is the one time people find him most suspicious...]
