I've got a comment on the Slow Learning entry but didn't want to continue the thread two months later. I nearly drowned in my aunt and uncle's lake when I was 18. But I did learn not to jump out of a boat without a life jacket in the middle of a lake because you don't feel like fishing. My uncle took off in the boat with my cousins but after a couple of strokes I realized it was a bad idea. I tried getting their attention but it didn't work. Luckily it wasn't a big lake but at points I got really discouraged when I couldn't touch bottom.
My sister could always swim well but it didn't take with me until I took swim class at Carolina. It had the added benefit of exempting me from the swim test too.
