My boyfriend was one step away from joining the Navy to pay for school. Then they lost his application and he re-evaluated the entire thing. Needless to say, he's not in the Navy.

I'd really, really, rather you didn't. Sometimes the armed forces are the best option open to you though. Don't make any decisions yet, especially not until we get a feel for our next president and the way the country is heading. If we have to make an emergency escape to Canada or Europe, I'd rather you didn't owe several years of your life to the government.
Just know that it's a big commitment. Not that it doesn't have its perks! Once you're in though, the government pretty much has taps on you and your family forever. If you're looking at translation in the Navy, they only take Arabic and Russian speakers, and you can't go to just any old school. But if you were going to join the military - definitely Navy is the way to go ^.~; Air Force is probably second best.
