9. Winter Song

The limp milk tramp cries metal flake tears
They drip like honey down soot mama's leg
You lay watchin' them off, eat a hole in his cloth
He'll ask, but he don't beg
Said I'd like to see the mademoiselle
Who holds the keys to all these doors around the waist
And rings the bell

This is a pretty old song, recorded in 1973, the same year as Greetings. Bruce would have been 22 or 23 when he finished writing this song. It's got the same kind of overly poetic, purple style as The Angel and Mary Queen of Arkansas (or a lot of songs by modern indie musicians), but it sounds nice anyway.
