off Mello's blind fury. A slight jolt in his stomach as he sees
a flash of unknown emotion behind those blue eyes.

is warm against Near's, the other tracing his cheek like a lover would -
even if he never consider the act has some meaning in them. Mello
looks at him, blue eyes half-lidded in lust, and leans to whisper sweet words
of affection, strangely unfitting for the blond, and he has to think if maybe
this is just an act; that Mello decides to play with his heart instead.

His emotions are like a whirlwind right now, and he doesn't know what

Years have twisted their emotions into wrenched guilt. Both different on
either sides, and both couldn't let it go. And yet Mello couldn't comprehend
why Near wouldn't kill the man who ruined their lives five years ago.

Near knows that Mello knows his time is up. The only way everything
would come out the way they wanted was for one to sacrifice the other.
And it's not what they wanted. For they lived for the other, and
Mello would certainly kill himself rather than let Near die.

It's their last night, but Near doesn't know it. Doesn't realize it, perhaps.
Mello wants nothing more than to hold him, until morning comes and he leaves.
Tell him he's sorry, he'll never let him fall, to just have some faith in him. He'll make
sure everything is alright, and he'll keep him safe. And that's all that matters.

It's over. It's finally over. But it's not the way Near thought it would end. He's not
there to embrace him, yell at him, make some irrelevant remarks with underline
concerns. He's not there to enjoy the victory, as hollow as it seems now.
It's over, but Near feels like he lost something instead.
