I was listening to my iPod on the bus this morning and a couple of songs came on in a row that struck me by their unexpected through-line. Both of these songs feature multiple members of the group singing and then delighting me when the star of the group (or, the person I consider the star) comes in at the end with a verse. Oh man - Spring Awakening was so good! I saw it three times and it makes me so sad that it was so short-lived. Now I have this song in my head!

I can't give an answer to the actual point of your entry - too much thought involved! I'll have to revisit.

The exact mechanics of what you're describing - the frontperson of an established band coming in and taking over vocals after being in the background - don't really apply here, but this one gives me the feeling that I read you as describing; it seems like each singer is just claiming the song as his or her own in a new way with each line.

Also, I've never embedded before. Let's see if this works.
