Cardboard Box - Discussion Post

This week...that awkward moment where Holmes is smug over a pair of severed ears.

DISCUSS.

I should not have intruded it upon your attention had you not shown some incredulity the other day. )

1. The murders seem pretty pointless, he's just an angry drunk trying to blame some catty old bitch for his actions... But, I was quite okay with the story overall.

2. He's totally showing off. But it reveals that he has every right to doing that. Reading people as well as clues would be an important part of his job.

3. ... I suppose it could be a bit of a morality tale, in that "if you cheat, you'll get murdered in a boat by your hubby" and "if you drink, you'll be cheated on and kill your wife."

4. Totally. I'm cool with it, if it's a little cheesy.

5. The ears are by far the coolest part of the story. I was all kinds of excited to figure out what exactly had happened.

6. Oh dear, now you're testing my memory. I think he seemed pretty giddy about the case throughout, and a bit angry that someone had commited such an act. His parting words are solemn, he seems sad and almost confused that such things occur.

1. I liked the story, once I found it. It wasn't included in my ebook.

2. He seems as if he's trying to impress Watson, as if Watson already isn't impressed by him.

3. It's a bit of a morality play in the wages of sin are death, for the cheating wife and her boyfriend anyway. Doyle did seem to enjoy taking the moral high ground in the stories.

4. Perhaps he is... he does love to point out what horrid things happen to drunkards and such. Horrible things also happen to cheaters in this one.

5. The ears are pretty intersting...

6. Holmes was certainly thrilled to have this case it seemed. Perhaps the heat was making him a bit bonkers. Or maybe he just wanted to show off for Watson and the dread Lestrade. He actually seemed confused that humans had emotion enough to commit such acts.
