Thoughts regarding The Wire seasons 1 -3, with a few remarks about season 4 for good measure.

I have recently rewatched the first three seasons of The Wire. I’ve wanted to do that for some time, and for a strange reason I apparently found the time during the busiest exam schedule. Or its possible I was just trying to find an excuse not to read ( Read more... )

This is a line repeated throughout the series. Stringer says it many times and the Greeks like to use it as well. In fact the line is repeated so many times its hollow ring becomes clearer and clearer, and the best example of that is the interesting juxtaposition of the line during Avon and Stringer’s mutual betrayal.

It makes you think, doesn't it? It is either "It's business" or it is "all in the game" and in a way these two things mean the same but at the same time they don't - the game is a wide "classification" . It is may all these things Mouzone was talking about - ability to win the fight, so to speak.

And - I love this post!!!

YES! This is very interesting and I think very true. "All in the game" is a wider definition, and while violent it allows for more emotion than "it's all business" does. The interesting this is that for The Greeks it isn't a game, it is business. Then there is Avon who isn't so much with the business but definitely more "all in the game" - and in the middle there is Stringer who tries to turn the game into business, all while forgetting that the Game has rules of its own.

And thank you - I had great fun writing this. I've been wanting to do a post like this for ages, but my head has been elsewhere. "The Wire" is a difficult show to digest and put into words.
