Photochrome fjords

Now this is just cool. The US Library of Congress has uploaded hundreds of old tourist photos from Norway. Not only are they from around 1890 to 1900 but they are in photochrome! Please, allow me to geek out and be a nerd, but I love the strange colours of photochrome.

Hee. See, now I don't know if you are quoting a Monty Python sketch and expressing a real desire. ;)

*g* Just don't forget the mountains amid all the fjord love. Mountains can be good to. I've actually stayed at this hotel in Stalheim. Not much has changed, though thankfully they've modernised part of the hotel interior. ;)

That local gal has quite a hat! What happens if a stiff breeze comes up?

These are all gorgeous (I love the odd coloring too - and I can definitely see them as postcards!). I especially love the wooden church. It looks like several cottages made into a layer cake, which somehow works!

With a powerful wind I think she'll be in a lot of trouble. But the scarf (it is a form of scarf actually) is kept pretty stiff and doesn't move in a light breeze. Today they use starch. I have no idea what they used in the 1890's. The odd thing is that she looks quite young, but if I recall correctly scarfs like that were only used by married women. Well, I guess she could be married...

The colouring has this weird Twilight Zone'ish quality. I love it.
