Coming to this rather late, but. Sita Sings The Blues is rather problematic in its depictions of Hindu religion and culture and also has issues with cultural appropriation, as this link details.

Good critique and information can never come to late. :) Thank you for the link - it looks like it debates a few issues I might sadly have overlooked due to my love of the animation. I'm very glad you brought it to my attention!
