You remain my poster-pony-brony for everything that is righteous and fine about the Brony phenomenon. Every time I start to nurture irritation with MLP because of my (entirely mild) aversion to its visual style, I remind myself of you and once again allow other people's little ponies to canter freely through other people's little landscapes.

Oh, I'm not, really. Unavoidable outliers notwithstanding, observing the whole fandom has been a lesson in humility, the sort that leaves you with a vibrantly renewed faith in humanity. I wanted to make a post about that, actually, but was sort of afraid to annoy the pony-averse people out there. A few weeks back, I witnessed what in any other part of the Internet would have been a flamewar -- a rather involved debate between several parties with opposed views. Except that people listened to each other, stayed calm and polite throughout (and apologized profusely when they didn't), upvoted their adversaries in thanks for a point made courteously. It was a like a freaking My Little Pony forum became the most mature place on the Internet, and how awesome is that? It's like some people out there are starting to realize that being nice is not a weakness. This is a worthwhile thing to remember, because as my previous post may have hinted, I'm having an increasingly harder time staying nice everyday while working in and commuting to Paris ( ... )
