A theraputic excercise commonly recommended by psychologists for dealing with feelings towards people you know goes along those lines. You write a letter to them like you describe, and leave nothing out, not even the bad stuff, and then you either put it away or throw it out. That's why you can put the bad stuff in. It's kind of helpful, I did it once and it sharpened my thoughts and helped me to better understand what I felt towards my letter's subject. Give it a try, maybe you'll like it.
