My first GAUPASA.

GAUPASA (noun): To start drinking when the sun sets, and go home when the sun rises.

So, spent the weekend in Alsasua, my dad´s hometown. They have this annual party that used to be for all the boys before they went to be in the military (when it was mandatory), and now everyone who´s 15 does it. They raise all this money and then spend it on, that´s right, PARTYING.
The view from my Uncle´s house.

So then I basically hung out with my cousin Asier´s girlfriend Nuria until 11pm cause he´s on a local soccer team and they had a game. The drinking began promptly at about 4pm with Pineapple liquor and then moved on to Calimocho (wine and coke) as we went out to the three bars in the small town.

On the left there is Nuria.

But then we ran into the actual festival, with kids dancing, so we stopped to watch and I tried to imagine my dad many years ago doing teh same.

Then it turns out you can join them! Since they were dancing "the jota," a dance I vaguely know from my cousin´s weddings, I joined.

The boys all have to wear white.

This was the sign on a bathroom to one of the bars, which I loved.

Then we went back to Nuria´s and her friends´ hangout place, and ate sandwhiches, around 10pm. her friends are awesome. I was VERY hungry.

Then my cousin Asier came, and then we started the really hard partying. I think this picture is my favorite - speaks perfectly to the night:

What you just heard was the sound of my parents and brothers hearts dropping into their stomachs.

Too bad they would fall for such a cheap joke. AHAHAHAHA!!! Gotcha. Oh, and I made Asier give the thumbs up. The next day he begged me to erase the picture, as well as all the rest of them. hahaa.
I think this is the part where I started to feel it, perhaps?

Aw...

The best picture of Asier in my mind... hahaha.

Is Nuria hot, or what?

I... think this is when Bon Jovi "It´s My Life" started playing?

And then all the pictures with new friends, who I´m sure thought I was nuts:

Another Asier classic:

This is at about 6am, when I decided I should drink water...

And then here I tried to smile larger than my face...

A kiss to everyone at home!

And the last picture of the night...

Needless to say, this was some of the most fun of my life. Asier is crazy like me, so we got along perfectly. Also, Nuria goes to my University, so we might be able to hook up in Pamplona too. Woohoo!!!

So we stayed out until about 8am. Now, THAT, my friends, is how you do gaupasa.

i think I´m going to have bring this tradition back home with me.

::big, broad smile::
