It is a bird-cat-thing, mostly. Cat's paws, tail and most of its torso, with an eagle's head, feathers and wings. Apparently you can't tell lies around them, and people used to steal their babies to put in shields to their enemies couldn't lie to them.
That's the not so nice part of the stories. :(
The better part is that if a thief takes a baby griffin, they get marked and the parents come and find them, even years later. Well, better from the griffins' point of view, anyway.

Why do they call it a bird though? It only sort of looks like a bird. It looks more like a bird-cat thing.

*frowns a bit* I know people can lie to me though.
But would the baby griffin grow up? Or do they not do that? O.o
Hey! Would a baby griffin be a cub or a chick? *snickers* :D
