something is very wrong. i am not familiar with any of the writers on that list. i feel like my education has failed me.

To be fair, I haven't read all of the women on the list. I think the two reasons you may not have read these folks is 1. many of them -- winterson & mullen -- are not just contemporary writers but also postmodern in their approach. They're not just whipping up traditional narratives. Thus, to teach them or even to introduce them to students, you have to be open to such genres. Not all of my professors at Hollins were open to that: I just lucked out in that my favorite professors did introduce me to such work.

Also, I peek into a bunch of lit. crit. blogs and have been introduced to lovelies that way.

You should read Anne Carson. You should read them all. Yes.

Also! You can give yourself your own education. You can! Library?

If I had more time, we could have a book club. Maybe in the spring?
