D23: Tangled Ever After; Frankenweenie; Oz; Trailer for Planes

Three notable things from D23:

- Tim Burton's short b&w film to be made into a 3D (bleh) b&w (ooh) STOP MOTION (!!!!!!!!!) feature-length film: FRANKENWEENIE!!!! Estimated release: October 2012. My comment: BURTON STOP HIRING DANNY ELFMAN TO SCORE YOUR FILMS, it is getting super tiring now.

- Oz: The Great and Powerful: "Walt Disney Pictures’ ( Read more... )

I'm sure it won't be all that great (sequels seldom are and it is a Disney Channel special) but I'm super excited for Tangled Ever After. And I really can't wait for Brave still either.

There was more info about Brave at D23, mostly about its plot.

"The impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right." Estimated release: 22 June 2012

I'm excited to see both the Toy Story short and Tangled Ever After, but not at all for Planes. I still haven't seen the first Cars.

Cars is my least favorite Pixar film ever, and I kinda wish I'd skipped it. :/ The sequel was even worse!

The Toy Story shorts are usually pretty good. There was one for Cars 2, and it was the most enjoyable part of the experience. As I recall, the next one is attached to The Muppets, which I've heard tentatively positive things about, so WOO!

Tangled got a made-for-money sequel. I didn't see it coming but I should have. That's okay, though. Only Fantasia 2000 and The Rescuers Down Under are the true sequels.

It's a short film, supposedly, but who knows what counts as a "short" film for Disney? Half-hour, hour? I would have paid money to see Maximus lead troops armed with frying pans into battle though.

I'm kinda meh on Wicked. I saw the stage musical for it - was okay, liked the music. Ever since reading it, my preferred Oz book is Was.

I'm kinda baffled by this "Wizard learns how to be a good guy!" angle. He's a terrible character, and I don't think cowardly dictators like him should be redeemed.

Tangled got a sequel? Can't say I saw that one coming, but I wonder what's going to happen... :)

I don't think it's a feature-length sequel. They're just calling it a TV Special, so it could be as short as thirty minutes.
