Why am I crying ?
Because I'm so fucking scared.

As the words are used again and again, as they're shortened to WWI or WWII, we lose the chilling effect, the ice cold fear that runs down the spine. When I read the words World War One in an article or in a speech they mean a distant conflict, something far in the past that lead to the end of imperialism, a failed Treaty and WWII.
