And just as an addendum, I am not suggesting Doubt is a bad play or movie. On its own, it really is an intriguing subject, and I know the play has won a lot of praise.

It's the bigger overall trend of how I see my religion regularly portrayed in the movies that leaves me unsettled.

Apologies if I sound like I'm going all Bill O'Reilly here or something.

Both Doubt and Milk look ridiculously good, I'd really like to catch them in the theater before they're gone. The other two, interesting, but rentals or cable to me.

Good question regarding Catholicism, and here's an answer: Sleepers. Kids were definitely getting raped in this movie, and the Catholic priest was the good guy. :) Haven't seen that movie in too long.

I guess that's an improvement. Maybe I should've put a third criteria about it being inherently connected to the Italian mob.

I suppose other religious groups have similar problems; Mormons are polygamists, Muslims are terrorists (although the PC backlash seems for that seems to be making a change for Muslims).

It's been a few years, but I think it was actually the Irish Mob that the kids were connected to, while De Niro's priest was Italian, but not connected.. or I could be entirely wrong.

I think the polygamist notion of Mormons is fading away, especially with the newer generation, but I could be wrong. One of my best friends is a Mormon, I have a slight amount of interest in them as a religion, and I don't see much.. but then, that could just be because I'm too close, who knows. Muslims on the other hand are being browbeaten these days in the US, it really is a shame.

Then again, you know, if all religion were abolished I'd dance a jig. :)
