TV shows
Well, I have been watching a lot of TV on DVD lately. I prefer it this way as I don’t have to wait through commercials (which I hate). Some shows are good. Some shows are eh. I started watching Lost on DVD last fall and loved it. I then downloaded this season and caught up with the show. I have to admit that the last few months have been a bit of a disappointment. I think this is due to the fact that the show takes such a long break. Why do TV shows do this? I mean don’t you totally lose your audience? Prison Break did this as well but I just so happened to have downloaded the beginning of the season the weekend before it came back from hiatus. I think this show is good. Very good! Now the problem is that eventually the guys have to break out of prison and then the show will end. So we’re talking 1-2 seasons max. That’s OK. When it’s done it’s done end it already. Don’t go the way of the X-files or Alias- please.
Now I come to a show I think is fracking awesome. Battlestar Galactica. All you fans of TOS go cry somewhere else!! This is the best sci-fi show to come along ever! (Well it at least shares no.1 with Firefly) Yes, they say frack, motherfracker, frack you, etc. The guys constantly make fun of it yet they have been begging all week to come over and watch season 2 on my computer and new 20” flat screen. Kudos to a great season 1 cliffhanger! Cylons, Centurions, politics, military, AI with feelings, one true God vs. many, the colony of 12, the scriptures, the arrow of Apollo and the tomb of Athena, terrorists, Kobol, Cloud 9, this has all happened before…and it will happen again, ½ cylon ½ human baby that must be kept hidden, “wake up and smell the psychosis, Gaius!”, Edward James Olmos…. the list goes on and on. Did I mention the show has some really good special fx and cool battle scenes? Rape, torture, murder and sex?-yup!
Overall great show. -3 points for hand held, shaky zoom shots (over)used all the time. -1 point for cheesiness factor of the use of the word frack.
Moving on…There has been a lot of discussion in this room about the best shows on TV. What is the best show ever? How do you rate a great show? After this weekend I agree with a couple of my friends. I come to this conclusion not only enlightened but a little saddened as well. My pick for best overall TV show is: Carnivale. Why? How much time do you have?
I think this might have to be a 2 part post. I am tired of writing and quite frankly this show has drained and exhausted me.
