Morning Pages

Jul 18, 2017 08:41

With the upswing of 'soundbyte' stream-of-consciousness social media, I've recently realized just how much I have missed the more personal aspect of LJ. In something of an ivory tower fashion, it was here that I met and became friends with others sharing similar interests. This niche is both more intimate and less personal, and I have missed it ( Read more... )

I can relate (re: writing). RL is a time suck and as one gets older this phenomenon only seems to increase. *rueful*

Isn't that the oddest thing? You'd think after this many years I'd know how to navigate my time.

Sigh.

Working on it, though.

That's is wonderful. I love the idea of doing morning pages.

FB is a time and mind drain, that's for sure. It absolutely contributes to getting less done. That said, during the election, it was an important means of engagement, but now, I personally am just exhausted and need something different.

I had a lovely, lengthy reply, but it appears that LJ ate it.

Sigh.

In any event, my morning pages are something to work toward, as today they're daily pages. UberGeek revamped my Windows this morning, but at least it's now all MINE!

When I first joined FB, I befriended everyone who requested, and I now question the decision. I've since defriended a few people for various reasons -- remembering why I hadn't kept in touch with them in the first place! It's a constant stream-of-consciousness which, in some cases, I'd prefer not to be privy! Although it seems as if you understand. I'm quite on board with your exhaustion vis-a-vis politics, even if I know we still have to be aware and active, because our civil liberties are being and will continue to be compromised.

This is a very restful niche.

I know people argue against defriending those who have different political views, but I cleaned house on FB during election and post-election times. I looked at obnoxious, racist, homophobic statements and asked myself, "Would I have this person over for dinner?" If the answer was no, I deleted them. My feed is much more peaceful now.

Yes, indeed. I have blocked several members of my extended family for those very reasons. Two of whom I've never met in person. A shared blood-pool three generations back does not a kindred spirit make.

There are those who have been staunch Republicans their entire lives who remain on my FB, but most of those are shocked and deeply distressed by what has led to where we are now.

Still, I post political statements once or twice a week, simply to remind everyone, including myself, that while we wish we had elected officials to represent our views and ethics and hopes for the direction of the country, we cannot trust this group to do so.

With all that being said, there is however, more about my garden and summer and family than politics!
