Phase One of the Kitchen Project is in Progress

The fridge is here and in place. Shelves are being built around it today. The rather awesome thing is the quality of David's work is so high we may not replace these cabinets/shelves when we replace the rest of the cabinets and countertops next year. We're rather thrilled by this prospect

YAY for excellent progress and contractors! I am hugely impressed that you're building your own island! Will it be one that can roll around and be locked? What kind of countertop will it have? Inquiring minds who will one day have to remodel their kitchens want to know! :D

Yeah, Mr. 42 and I aren't fans of this weather, either. We don't have a/c, but thankfully we have ceiling fans in most (but not all) rooms, which help a great deal. I'm considering hitting the pool this evening once the sun is down and the long low ladies are walked. I have told my friend who's coming over for dinner to bring her swimsuit.

Our island plans have changed a little. We've finally decided on an overall color scheme: cabinets will be white and in a style matching the living room built-ins. For the counters, we had originally decided on timeless marble, but on second, third, and fourth thoughts, it's too much white. Now, we've decided the counters will be a marbled black/gold/brown granite. Since we have about 2.5" on either side of the new range which need tile, we've got a little black marble to use as a border, just to see if it's something we could live with in an entire counter. The range is stainless and black, so that bumper should look nice. With all of that background, the short of the island bit is it will be black with a cherry wood top

It really is. For years, we lived with in the wall/window units in three rooms, and extensive ceiling fan use. I hated summer with a passion. But now it's livable, and my temper isn't nearly as short.

Congrats! on reclaiming your living room. It's a wonderful feeling. I've spent much of the last week cleaning, sorting, and reorganizing my kitchen, and I feel accomplished, and rather happy with the state of things. Next is the island, and a little more reorganization, but Everything will have a place, and I'm thrilled.
