Title: Love Story
Pairing: Sooyoung/Kyuhyun; Sooyoung/Sungmin
Rating: G
Genre: Drama; Angst
Summary: because a love story is most often observed by the people watching rather than the people in it...
I. She likes him.
II. It was not his cute face nor his ideal height nor his shy persona nor his seemingly cold demeanor that got her. It was all of that, and his heavenly voice.
III. She is pretty, her long legs are a killer, and her beautiful hair is to die for. But she is loud, boyish, feisty, and too carefree.
And Kyuhyun isn't really fond of those kind of girls.
IV. He gets into an accident not a year after he debuted as a member of Super Junior. Family and friends prayed for his recovery as how SM trainees prayed to debut as soon as possible.
Sooyoung, still a trainee, held vigils every night for Kyuhyun to get better.
V. Manager-oppa tells her she'd be dj-ing with Sungmin for Chunbangjichuk Radio. She knows Sungmin from way back but they are not really close.
"Sooyoungie~"
He calls her name dearly during first day and she decides, he's nice after all.
VI. Sooyoung is the happiest girl in the world the day So Nyuh Shi Dae debuted. Not only because SNSD's first unofficial stage performance was recorded on the school she attended but also because her first performance was during Super Junior's appearance on MNet's School of Rock.
And yes, Kyuhyun is there.
Her prayers worked. He's already well.
VII. Kyuhyun sees Sooyoung smiling and waving at him but he pretends as if he doesn't. He rolls the car window back up and continues humming to the song playing on his player.
VIII. Obviously, she has been ignored.
She is on the verge of walking away in shame but then she feels a hand closing on hers. He looks up to see Sungmin's thoughtful eyes as he mouths "looking for me?" in a teasing manner.
She scrunches her nose and pretends that she isn't amused with the joke. But she tightens her hold on his hand just the same.
IX. She likes him.
He knows; and the boys are teasing him endlessly about it.
"She's not my type." He rolls his eyes and scoffs at them.
"We didn't say anything about you liking her." Heechul snaps back at him.
"She annoys me."
X. Sungmin stops halfway from knocking on the door upon hearing the conversation. His eyes shift to the tall girl beside him and he hears his heart break as he sees her fighting hard to keep the tears from falling from her glassy eyes.
"Soo..."
"I-It's late now, oppa. I'll get going."
She turns around and runs toward the elevator.
Sungmin shakes his head and tries fooling himself that he doesn't know the reason why the girl walked away.
XI. Kyuhyun walks inside the company cafeteria for lunch and sees eight girls sharing a meal.
A certain someone is missing.
He observes how he has been seeing lesser of her each day. A total of fourteen "encounters" used to be the average before.
He shrugs his shoulder and decides it is better that way.
XII. He sees her walking towards his direction. He quickly looks for a nearby exit but stops doing so when he saw her stop on her tracks and walk the other way.
It happens again the day after and the succeeding weeks after that.
It wasn't until Kyuhyun sees her eating alone way past lunchtime on the cafeteria while her group mates are busy practising has he concluded that their "less" encounters aren't mere coincidences at all.
XIII. It is eleven o' clock and he cannot sleep.
Not with Sungmin giggling and laughing like a schoolgirl as he talks on the phone with someone.
It has been four hours since he first stepped on the room to see the elder boy with the phone glued to his ear.
"Okay, goodnight Sooyoungie. Be early tomorrow, okay?"
He turns his back against Sungmin and curses under his breath.
XIV. He sees Siwon talking to Sooyoung. Siwon calls him and talks to him. Sooyoung doesn't say anything. She's not smiling nor even looking at him.
She is ignoring him. And somehow, it hurts.
XV. Sooyoung really wants to back out the last minute when she learned that Kyuhyun will be their "surprise caller" for Chunji's 100th Day celebration. But she's a professional and she knows how to set a difference between her job and her personal life.
XVI. "But he is my love; hence, I be the one to say his name."
Kyuhyun feels like someone punched him on the stomach upon hearing the line.
Sooyoung continues bickering with Sungmin about him and he wonders how the girl manages to blab endlessly and quip jokes about him as if nothing awkward is happening between them.
XVII. Sooyoung has never been thankful for her ability to make any awkward scene comfortable until tonight. She knows her cover has been blown so she turns the situation around and makes a joke out of it. So far her little act has been carried out perfectly that she's sure no one will get the hidden meaning behind all of it.
She laughs at the right cue and jokes at the right time; and Sungmin, having a fair grasp of what was happening, can't help but admire her determination.
XVIII. "But he is such a weird person. I was so happy when I saw him in the car but he ignored me."
Kyuhyun feels as if all the guilt in the world crashed on his chest. She sounds too casual about it but it is what made him guiltier.
"Kyuhyun-ah..."
Sungmin tries to clear the air but he decides that this would be the only chance for him to apologize for his actions.
"I'm really sorry about that."
He hopes the million fibers of the telephone wire will be able to bring the message of his sincere apology. He closes his eyes and listens.
XIX. Sungmin calls him again.
"Kyuhyun-ah..."
"Neh?"
"Saranghae."
His world stops for a moment for as he ponders behind the reason for the sudden question.
"Ah, nado saranghae hyung."
Sungmin's laughter rings in his ear just as he hears Sooyoung casually complimenting his voice.
And before he could stop himself, he hears his voice calling out her name.
"Soo... Sooyoung-ssi... Sooyoung-ssi!"
"Neh?"
His voice falters a bit but he managed to say it.
"Nado saranghaeyo."
XX. Sooyoung feels her defenses crumble. The butterflies in her stomach are dancing wildly and the only thing she wants to do right then is to sit down on a corner and roll around in happiness.
But she's on air so she has to think fast.
"Ah nado saranghaeyo. I love you, you love me, we love each other."
Kyuhyun laughs at the random English outburst and replied without thinking...
"I'm fine thank you, and you?"
The three of them laugh. He feels happy feeling that everything seems to be going fine.
Sooyoung seems to be a cool girl after all.
XXI. He is starting to like her.
XXII. She's still rather loud, boyish, feisty, and carefree but he notes how she seems to mellow down whenever he is around. She seems to be much more refined and girly than before.
And to be honest, he sorta likes the little changes that he sees.
XXIII. Sungmin cuts down on pink shirts, tries walking with a swagger, and practices speaking in a low voice more often than sometimes and occasionally put together.
Kyuhyun should have noticed these subtle changes in his room mate but his mind is occupied with something else.
XXIV. Sooyoung and Kyuhyun's paths cross on a narrow SM hallway. It has been months since they’ve last seen each other. He doesn’t look for exits and she doesn’t turn her back. He gives a shy smile which she returns with a courteous nod.
It’s funny how he took notice of her right when she has stopped noticing him.
XXV. She still likes him.
But she is in love with someone else.
XXVI. The maknae keeps quipping jokes how it annoys him that his Kangin-hyung is filming a movie but is still allowed to visit Chunji. Manager-hyung seems deaf to all his hints so he spends another night listening to Sooyoung and Sungmin having fun with each other.
He wants to turn off the radio but he can’t.
XXVII. Sooyoung goes to sleep at around 1am almost every weekend. That's the scheduled time specially allocated for talking with Sungmin.
Kyuhyun goes to sleep at around ten in the evening almost every weekend. That way he won't be able to hear his hyung gushing and laughing merrily while spending his usual three-hour talkfest with the girl he is starting to get really fond of.
XXVIII. Sungmin goes home with his head down. He walks inside the room silently and slumps straight on his bed. Kyuhyun need not ask the reason why the elder boy is sobbing his heart beneath the blanket.
He quietly exits the room, giving Sungmin time to heal his hurting heart now that Sooyoung has left Chunji.
XXIX. Sooyoung heaves out a sigh as she puts down Donghae’s guitar on the floor. She has been practicing ‘Goodbye Days’ for almost an hour now.
It frustrates her.
Not because the chords are hard but because she always ends up crying whenever the song hits the chorus.
XXX. Kyuhyun walks away from the practice room door and forgets his intention of getting his hyung’s order of getting his guitar back. His Japanese knowledge is limited but he need not use a dictionary to understand why the song holds a special meaning to the crying girl.
It was played during her last Chunji broadcast.
It was her and Sungmin's song.
XXXI. Kyuhyun is happiest the day Super Junior and Girls' Generation had their first CF promotion together.
He freezes when the photographer pulls him towards where Sooyoung is standing; leaving instructions to the both of them about the would-be couple shots. Siwon joins them the last minute and the elder boy slings his arm around Sooyoung as they all strike a pose upon the photographer's orders.
They check the picture right after and Kyuhyun silently prays that he is the only person who notices the awkward atmosphere between him and the girl.
XXXII. Kyuhyun moves away right after the shot is done and contents himself with watching her from the corner of his eye. Sooyoung converses freely with Siwon, laughing at the lamest jokes the man can cook up with. The latter then excuses himself as the photographer calls him for another shot; leaving the two alone and awkward by themselves.
He catches her stealing glances towards his direction and he smirks to himself.
XXXIII. “Sooyoungie~ bogoshipeoyo~”
Sooyoung receives a text from Sungmin and her smile brightens a thousand times more. She cranes her neck subtly to see him from the other side of the room looking back at her. She gives him a thrifty smile before going back to her usual posture; hands crossed behind her back and a goofy smile suppressed on her face.
She doesn't notice Kyuhyun bearing witness to everything that has transpired.
XXXIV. Sungmin talks about how the Chunji listeners declined after Sooyoung left.
The boys propose a made-up scandal between him and Sunny to increase audience. They all then enumerated their dongsaeng's traits which will make her fit for the role. Sungmin nods his head for every trait given.
Yes, Sunny is nice, warm-hearted, cute, and smart.
But she is not the girl who holds his heart.
XXXV. Tonight, Sooyoung will be visiting Chunji.
So, Kyuhyun logs on the internet and streams the show. He sees three cheery people but somehow felt something off with the whole picture. The air is rather festive; Sooyoung looks really happy and Sungmin can't seem to get his hands off the girl.
Sunny looks notoriously out of place.
He swallows an invisible lump on his throat as he turns off the monitor. He isn't lying when he says he has been listening to Chunji when he has nothing to do; but somehow, he wishes he isn't lying too when he says he doesn't know how to watch the show live on the computer.
XXXVI. It's supposed to be just a simple crush.
But every time he dishes out traits of his ideal girl closely resembling her features more and more each day, Kyuhyun wonders whether his small crush has actually grown into something more than what he had intended it to be.
XXXVII. All she sees is black. A solid sheet of seemingly endless darkness.
Sooyoung hears her bandmates voice breaking but she knows they are but a quieter echo of the louder shattering of their hearts.
She holds back the tears and pretend that everything is okay. This Dream Concert is turning into a nightmare but she has to be strong and the show must go on.
XXXVIII. Kyuhyun looks out from the side-stage upon hearing what the fuss is all about. He tries to adjust his eyes to the unfamiliar black ocean. The song has just started but but the girls are falling apart. He would have ran to the center of the stage and take them away one by one until the madness ends but the determination, though masked by cracked voices, fake smiles, and misty eyes, stark naked on the face of the nine keeps him at his place.
He decides, later when the lights are off and their tears will fall, he'll be waiting on his post to wipe it all.
XXXIX. Time stops as the performance ends. Friends, and family flock towards the nine broken souls. Everyone giving words of comfort. Everyone doing their best to take the pain away.
He sees the girl he was looking for comforting a weeping Sunny; arms wrapped around the smaller girl's frame as she receives her sobs.
He admires her ability to keep her strong facade as she comforts her member but he also notes, with a rather painful feeling, how her defenses give away when a certain someone walks towards her direction.
His breath hitches and he simply looks away upon seeing Sooyoung break down in Sungmin's arms.
XL. Later that night, the older boy pours his anger and disappointment on his online entry; not caring what such reaction might bring to him and the group.
Kyuhyun lets him be.
End of Part II
A/N: yes there's still a part three LOL
