Genre: Friendship, Slight Angst

The Super Junior dorm is an ordinary place.

It is neither expensive nor cheap, just stuck right in the middle. There are no elaborate designs but it isn’t bare either. But then, it is also distinctive. It eats up two floors, the eleventh and the twelfth, of one building. It is separate to each other yet it is still connected.

As you enter the door, you will notice the large closet of shoes - shoes of all sizes, shapes, and designs. The closet arranged everyday by the neat freak Lee Hyukjae. Hyuk resides on the eleventh floor but his ability on keeping things organized climbs stairs. That and his endless need to be with all members as much as he can.

The hallways of the eleventh floor are free of litter and the interior of the house is especially bright. This is all credit to Hyuk and the other members living there, as well. Kim Jongwoon, Kim Ryeowook, Lee Sungmin, and Cho Kyuhyun aren’t really the type to loiter around much. Well, Kyuhyun and Yesung we are not sure of, but the other three are the best household keepers if you’ll ever saw one.

Going straight, you’ll see the kitchen. Ryeowook’s kingdom. It’s a relatively small space but everything is in order. Wookie always keeps the counter and table clean and all his kitchen utensils are placed properly on the cupboard. Ddangkoma once strolled in there and he almost ended up in Wookie’s soup. To appease a crying Yesung, Sungmin played the Carrot Song on their dainty keyboard.

The topmost part of the cupboard is bare except for a huge pan. It wasn’t any of the eleventh floor members’ belongings. Park Jungsoo specifically brought it down from the twelfth floor. It was his faint attempt in keeping Kim Heechul’s mood swings in check every time he is reminded of the things that was once there but isn’t anymore.

So up to this day, Hangeng’s favorite pan where he cooks his legendary Beijing Fried Rice is kept securely in Wookie’s shelf. Nobody touches it but it is still on its best form. They do not know why until Yesung accidentally saw Heechul sneak down to the eleventh floor. His muffled sobs resonating on the kitchen walls as he cleans the unused pan with his handkerchief.

There is no television in the living room. Their manager once brought one but Kyuhyun transferred it into his shared room with Sungmin. He reasons out that the other four rarely watches TV and that he needs his daily drama dosage to keep him sane. The other members let him be. Not because he is right but because he is the maknae.

The twelfth floor is the antimatter of the spic-and-span wonder that is the eleventh floor. The first thing you’ll see upon entering is a huge empty basket beside an equally huge potted plant. Do not pull it away. That’s where Choi Siwon loves shooting the clothes he takes off every time he drops by for the weekend. That’s also Heebum’s second home. The place where he loves taking naps or dropping poo.

There are two refrigerators in the house. One in the kitchen and one in the living room. Couch potatoes would not have no for an answer in having their snacks at arm’s reach. Kim Youngwon specifically wants his stacks of beer cold and ready when he needs one. And what Kangin wants, Leeteuk gives. The lowest shelf is reserved for his beer cans. It never ran out of stock even when he went to the army. Teuk made sure it’s always filled. He needs some of it too.

Sometimes, Kim Kibum comes for a visit and all members gather at the twelfth floor. It was in that same place where he announced one lazy Saturday night about his plans. Some of them weren’t very happy but all understands. They understand that it was what he really wants. That even before Super Junior is Super Junior now; Kibum’s heart has already been sworn to acting. With heavy heart and sad smiles, they tell him to go - to pursue that dream that he has long nurtured. For it was all he ever wanted. That ever-evasive dream he has always been chasing.

The dorm has never been Kibum’s home yet he feels as if the walls were talking to him. Welcoming him back like the waiting arms of a father after his prodigal son comes back. And for that, he hates it. The place is welcoming and calling and Kibum isn’t sure whether he deserves such greeting.

But still he always comes back. And when he does, the members are always there for him. Like how they said they would be the night they promised that no matter what, they will always be there and that he will always be one of them. They will ask him about the latest drama he had auditioned for and would encourage him endlessly about his dreams. They never tell but Kibum knows that their hearts break a little bit more whenever they hear about his yet another failed audition.

The walls of the twelfth floor dorm have changed the most from the first time he had seen them. It was once bare - deprived of any decor. Nobody would bother beautifying it as everyone is too busy making use of every space available to fit their thirteen bodies.

But the walls aren’t bare now. That large spacious face of furnished cement is now alive. Alive with framed photographs - of sapphire blue seas and smiling faces of boys of different ages, hairstyles, and personalities. Boys - twelve, thirteen, fifteen, twelve, ten, and now nine. The largest photographs were their U photoshoot pictures. Super Junior and SJ-M’s. Every night, Park Jungsoo looks at it and smiles. He smiles and waits for the day that they will have a photo like that again.

Beneath the photographs is a low shelf. On it were trophies, awards, gifts, and almost everything that Lee Donghae managed to smuggle from their many trips abroad. It was originally placed on the storage room but Shin Donghee laboriously brought it to where it is now. Just to make the room look full.

Next week, the pool table Henry Lau requested will come in. Another thing to fill up the space.

There is a huge plasma TV in the waiting room. It is almost always off except when they watch a drama or a variety show where a member visits as a guest. The couch in front of it is long. Big enough space to stretch my legs upon, Zhou Mi jokes.

But they all knew the reason behind that. The couch is long so it could fit fifteen people. Jungsoo made sure of that. That everybody will have a place to sit on.

The Super Junior dorm is an ordinary place and yet, it isn’t.

The walls are the non-breathing witness of that vacuous space which once held endless laughter, pointless arguments, and hour-long screaming. The entire dorm is used to be filled with laughter, love, and happiness of the boys who had lived there.

And though the laughter isn’t as often as it was before, the members made sure the happiness and love remained. On the frames on the wall, on the little corners of the rooms, on every part of the house - laughter, love, and happiness are still there. That even if others have stopped believing, it is there. It still exists.
