I'm glad you're still going on this storyline! I love the little details - Moon's emoji's and Chariya's response to that, the name of the restaurant, the entire work-life-parent pull that goes on in Chariya's head. (I probably would have died trying to drag one of my teens out of bed in the morning physically, but I was not a superhero.)
Thanks! I'm glad the prompt let me keep writing it!
I was going to say "But Chariya doesn't have a strength power" and then I remembered that was one of the powers I gave her, I just didn't talk about that one yet (or another one), just her healing ability.
I'm glad you appreciated all the details, and especially the work-life-parent pull. I don't think I've really written any fiction from a parent angle before, but that's silly considering it's such a big part of my life so there's a lot of experience I can draw from, and I look forward to making more of that work.
her daughter reminds me of a friend of mine growing up. staying over at her house always involved about an hour of trying to get her to wake up the next morning, lol.
i really loved the imagery and the tone of this - could see it all so clearly!
I like the subtle way you let us know that Alice is trans (at least, I assume that's what the Lupron is for rather than precocious puberty since she's 15) - I enjoy when authors add backstory that way, with just a little hint, rather than going the obvious route and just saying something like, "Chariya woke up her trans daughter," because it's clear that Chariya thinks of Alice as just "her daughter."
Anyway, I'm really enjoying this story and these characters and I'm already ready to read more from them! Good work this week :)
It pleases me immensely that you picked up exactly what I was doing with all of that. I prefer hints too, especially for the reason you mentioned in this case. Chariya isn't thinking about her daughter being trans as a BIG DEAL that must be mentioned as an adjective, because Alice is first and foremost her daughter, and that's how she sees her.
I really am enjoying this story. I also like reading the comments, I always learn something such as Lupron for trans folk. I did not look it up and just assumed that it had something to do with the ADHD or Autism. Good lesson for me.
That makes sense that it could be assumed a medication for something else that was mentioned, if it's not looked up. For the record, there is no medication specifically for autism, and Adderall is the most common drug used by ADHD folks, but not everyone with ADHD uses drugs to treat their symptoms.
