This distant, disconnected Colin is beautifully written and so is this vibrant, warm Katie. It felt like Colin was dragged along in this relationship, with Katie doing all the heavy lifting. It was doomed to failure as soon as he almost reluctantly fell into bed with her.
This is gorgeous and heart breaking: “It’s not that I don’t love you. I do love you.”
He considered saying it back. That would be the best course of action to take. When his mouth did open, all he could say was, “The popcorn’s burning.”
He left when she started to cry. Katie doesn't even get an apology. What the hell did Bradley do to leave him so gutted?
Colin being trapped and alone along the busy Interstate, waiting for friends that are probably not going to come already had me twitchy, and now he seems to be suffering from heat stroke. He obviously needs a rescue...
Thank you so much for this absolutely beautiful comment. I so appreciate having these sorts of notes about my writing and character development, etc. <3
I love the way your writing feels like I'm there, with the stifling heat of the sun burning me inside out even though I'm sitting in the shade of the trunk. Beautiful work with broken hearts, I'm full of feelings!
