Not Without A Fight

We left a little late and then missed the turn once we got to Des Moines, so we didn't end up getting there until around 515. We were at the bottom of the stairs barely inside the door, which was waaaay further down than I've been for any other show. Cyrus walked by a few times while we were in line, but I didn't want to be the one to stop him. I feel bad talking to people before shows because I know they have a lot of stuff to get done.

So we got inside and we landed second row. Fireworks was first and they were decent. They had more time than they thought so they were asking what they should play, and someone said they should play a song they already played again. Someone in the band said they saw Less Than Jake with the 8675309 guy and he played that song three times. He opened and closed with it and also had some kind of remixed version in the middle of his set. There's really nothing else interesting to say about them...so onto Set Your Goals. The guy that was doing their mic check came on and was all "Why are your Burger Kings closed?" And someone said it was because of Earth Day and he goes "because it's Earth Day, Burger King is closed?...Fxck Earth Day." When they came on, everyone went crazy. I really didn't like them at all. They had two lead singers, and I really don't like or understand that. They kinda seemed like they thought they were the best band on the bill and something about them just made them come off as arrogant.

Onto Bayside. By this point, everyone was being smashed into the barrier as much as possible. They put on such a freaking good show. I really don't think they could've put together a setlist that I wouldn't like. They really don't have any songs that I don't like. Anthony seemed to be having a super good time and was smiling like crazy, which I thought was awesome. Jack & I were singing to each other a lot. That dude has some sweet guitar parts and he just looks so cool when he's playing them. Ahhh this band is just ridiculous. I'm so freaking happy I got to see them. Nick said something about them playing Warped and Anthony asked if it came to Iowa and then asked where we went for Warped and everyone was screaming and he was just like "I didn't understand a single one of you." They pretty much just played and rocked and were amazing. I was completely blown away and just had a blast during their set. And they all looked up while they played, so that was awesome. This band is just so phenomenal to me, I'm just stoked I finally got to see them.

Finally, New Found Glory - completely blew me away. I think I was just really excited for Bayside so I didn't really think about how their set would go. Jordan interacts with the crowd so much and they just all seem like there is absolutely nowhere else they would rather be. Jordan and Chad both came down by the barrier and that was insane and deadly and fun. Jordan came down during Sincerely Me and put the mic in my face. Chad took a picture for his twitter that I was in. It didn't turn out very well, but it was dark and on a phone. They all looked up and made eye contact too. I love when bands do that. It makes it seem like they're playing for the people that come out rather than for themselves to make a living. They're doing it for (hopefully) both, but come off as so much more personable when they look out and you sing together. Before they played 47, Chad said it was about how much Jordan used to call Steve asking if he could be in the band. For their encore, just Jordan and Chad came out at first. Chad said something about them reading their myspace fore requests and someone yelled out International Superheroes Of Hard Core and Chad laughed and goes "yeah, the acoustic version" and did the Captain Straight Edge yell. It was hilarious. Then they actually played Too Good To Be and it seemed like no one knew it and Jordan pointed at me and it was cool. Then everybody else came out and they played two more songs and were just all around awesome. They completely blew me away. This tour was perfect and I would kill to be able to see them together again.
