Punchline/Socratic

Soooo ridiculously good. It's freaking Punchline, so it was no surprise, but it was just really surreal. When we got inside, Chris and Steve were both at the merch table so we talked to them and Chris loved my shirt and wanted a picture on his camera, but the flash wasn't on and then it was blurry so we just did one on my camera. When we were going to take a picture, Chris said "I'm so glad that Lindholm's are here." and that kind of made my night. Steve said that whenever he thinks of all the name videos and stuff, he thinks of my name. And he asked me to do him a favor and gave me a bunch of letters to mail out to people that wrote to them two years ago haha. They had these giant pins for five bucks and they were just sooo big that it was completely necessary to get one.

After we talked to them, we went to watch Thrillage. There were a few people up at the barrier and some more back at the bar, but it was pretty empty. All the openers were really good, so that added even more to how amz this show was. Scissors came up next and the girl had a Ghostbusters patch on her guitar strap and some sweet boots on. During their set, she said she was having bad feedback, and their lead singer said it was just because she's a girl. Their lead singer was all over the place patting people on the had and just having fun with it. Then it was Just Left. They had a bunch of fans there. They seem to be a pretty well known local band. Their guitarist jumped back off a monitor and hit the mic stand and the lead singer just smiled and caught it, so then he went back up and jumped off again being really careful not to hit it. Then he was doing a jump or spin or something later and almost ran into him and he just backed up and was all "I think he wants to fight." After one of their songs, their guitarist was like "Is it time for a story?!" and it was asm. Then their lead singer told a story about their van tire exploding and then the bassist said something really brief and then it got quiet and he just said "That was all I had to say...I thought somebody else was gonna talk." They asked if anyone knew a song and a few people did, but not many, so their singer was like "Okay, we're gonna play Don't Stop Believing, we're Journey now." The singer came down like right in our face a lot and just like sat there. Good stuff.

Then Socratic. I love Socratic. Their keyboard had a purple velvet cape on it and it was just asm. Their bass player had one of the giant Punchline pins on. He said he was having feedback problems, then everyone was quiet and the lead singer was like "...Now or when you're playing?" because no one heard anything then the guitarist had everyone be completely silent and was like "...Nope, I don't hear anything." I don't really remember if they did anything, but they sounded good. Then they were talking about how it was an early show and people started drinking and 530. Then the guitarist said that starting to drink and 230 am or pm is acceptable. They played a lot of new songs in their set.

Finally, freaking Punchline. So freaking good. I love this band so much. I don't remember the order that stuff happened in, so I think I'm better off just listing stuff off.
- During Caller 10, Steve said he was gonna tell a story and he could because the guy was in another country. "This guy was a pretty big guy, about as big as this guy *points at Belan*..." and Belan gave him the funniest look ever. Then he said he had a tattoo on his forearms with lyrics from Caller 10, but instead of "maybe fate can only take you so far", it said "maybe faith won't take you so far." And he was like "On the CD, there's literally nothing else going on. No instruments or anything." So during the show, Steve didn't want to say the right line and make the guy feel stupid, so he gave him the mic and he screamed the wrong line hahah. So Steve re-enacted that and before he said he made us all be really quiet and then he screamed it and it was amz.
-Belan was making us repeat after him. He started with whoas and easy stuff, then he went into his falsetto stuff and Steve was just laughing at him. Not very many people repeated the falsetto part, so he did it again and it was asm. Then he did this barking thing and I don't even know what happened but it was fun.
-During the World, Steve said "so much better than Chris" and then at the end, Chris goes "that's me."
-"I'm sorry, I gotta apologize Steve...my g-string was out of tune" - Chris
"You always have problems with g-strings." - Belan
"I'm glad you said that because that's more of a you thing to say." - Steve
-During I think the Fake, the Snake, and the Birthday Cake, Chris did a kick thing and then right after, Steve just kinda lifted his leg up and it was funny. Luckily, Kelsey got video of it.
-Steve said he and Duane share a bond of being the same mic height.
-Punchline won the Stanley Cup along with the Penguins.
-Steve and Belan's impression of Chris yelling at Andre - "ANDRE! You can't be doing that, dude!" and Sarah gets mad when Chris says "You gotta stop disrespecting the house, dude" to Andre.
-I got a setlist and it had Heart Transplant, but they played Caller 10 instead because it was someone's birthday and they requested it.
-I don't remember what song, but Steve just came over and sat on the monitor right in front of us while Belan was singing.
-I swear this happened during Just Say Yes, but it's not on the setlist, so maybe not, but Steve just posed on the monitor and was like "I'm pondering" or something and it was funny.
-They said they like playing in Chicago because there's a common misconception that they're from Chicago and then no one said anything so Steve was like "...has anyone else heard that?"
-Steve kept calling their songs original compositions.
-Chris just said he likes playing music and that was pretty much all he said.
-People like to tell them that they have a buddy and go on into something about how they're vaguely part of the music business.
-Chris said he gave up on TV and Steve just laughed and said "that's a pretty broad statement." Chris only uses his TV for Wii.

Then after the show, we talked to Belan for a little bit, then went to Chris and we was talking to some other people and he was like "It's the Lindholm's from three hours away!" And he pointed out my shirt and how that's his catch phrase. And we were talking about everything and one of the guys grew up in the Quad Cities. I had Chris sign my bag, then they were asking me who all the the signatures were from and criticizing how illegible they all are haha. Chris said he like Ryan Luciani's because he just wrote his name and you could read it. Then Chris was trying to find his name and they were laughing at him because he just signed it but didn't even know where. Then we talked about Texas Toast and New Kids On The Block and all kinds of good stuff. Socratic was over by their table, so I had them all sign my bag and they were cool, but I didn't really talk to them because I still had to find Steve. Then we went and talked to Steve again and the security was screaming at us the whole time to get out. I don't remember what we talked to Steve about at all other than him asking if Des Moines was closer for us. We were waiting for people to get done buying merch so I could get a picture with Steve, so I went over and talked to the guy in Socratic for a little bit. He signed my bag then was trying to get me to buy something and was like "We're only five dollars short of our goal!" so I offered to just give him five dollars, but he said that wasn't fair, so he asked my shirt size and picked out a shirt and gave it to me for five bucks. He also said he was drinking, so I'm sure that was part of it haha.
