I've been volunteering as an after school math tutor/ teacher. 3 teachers rotating making a weekly worksheet & lesson to go over basic algebra that kids of all ages get tripped up on. However, the kids have little incentive to work on the work we give them, because it's all voluntary, and they don't have the incentive that they do for school work

this is awesome! my friend james is working as an after-school tutor at central falls HS, and he is having to come up with ways to engage students, as well. he is an english tutor, though, so no awesome gaga algebra for him.

I helped out one week with the English class they have here. We were doing a mad-libs thing where I would ask them for a verb, a noun, etc and then sub them in for words in some rap song they all knew. We had 3 teachers that day and we all took turns "performing" the new song.

"Let me lick you from your neck down to your navel, cuz shawty you look ready" became
"Let me kick you from your house down to your supermarket, cuz shawty you look crazy"

I'm pretty sure I'm better than Pleasure P (and no, I had no idea who this dirty gross rapper was before this). I don't know who picked this song, but really?! Holy inappropriateness! Good thing my team went the funny route.
