well, i don't know the guitarist's name, but i grew up listening to Boston (especially since my name is amanda..) but their guitar solos definately win over me and my brother..
I can't stress enough how awful it is when a guitar solo is stuck into a song, not having anything to do with the song at all, just because the guitarist figured it would be a nice time to show off and waste time.
There is no best guitar solo, in any way. There are so many different kinds that will work with many different types of music, and people just obsess over the classic rock artists' guitar solos because they were insanely over indulgent in them.
It's true that people indulge over classic rock artists' guitar solos, but you have to hand it to them -- they did have their own unique methods. And there really might not be a best guitar solo; personally, I can't really choose one. It does vary on style and technique.
Their techniques weren't exactly all that unique, but I'll give you that they were very talented.
I'd say if I really had to pick something, I might go for the solo at the end of "Debaser" by Pixies. It's not incredibly difficult, but it just carries on with the song and perfectly provides a good end.
