-Character Info:
Name: Clarissa Rennard
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Height: 5'7"
Birthday: August 9th (Leo)
Hometown: Saffron City, Kanto
Trainer Class: Team Rocket Admin
-Appearance:
With her heart-shaped face, upturned nose and blue eyes, Clarissa looks distinctively feminine. She has thick, slightly wavy blond hair that sits just above her shoulders. She prides herself in taking great care of her appearance, especially her hair, which she adores and regards as her crowning feature; she is excessively diligent in ensuring that it remains soft and sleek, and follows a rigorous beauty routine to ensure it stays that way. It's only natural, therefore, that it causes her considerable despair when locks of it are singed, severed off, or otherwise damaged horribly during field missions. Her face is usually pulled into a mean, threatening scowl, which varies in intensity but rarely disappears. Clarissa does smile sometimes, but the real, heartfelt ones are reserved only for the few people who are able to coax her into letting her guard down a little. The impact of her mean look is slightly lessened by the fact she always has a plaster stuck across the bridge of her nose, which makes her look rather childish.
Clarissa is just above average height and is slimly built. Her limbs are covered with bandages and plasters and she is always harbouring a selection of minor scrapes and bruises. This adds to her threatening appearance; coupled with her standoffish, callous personality, people are often drawn to assume that the unyielding onslaught of injuries is due to Clarissa having violent tendencies, when in actuality her appalling balance in the offending factor. She wears a variation of the basic Team Rocket uniform; black hat, short skirt, boots, and a short-sleeved shirt emblazoned with the infamous red 'R'. She also keeps a small first-aid kit attached to her belt alongside her pokeballs at all times.
-Personality:
Clarissa isn’t the type to make friends easily. She views most people as inferior to herself and prefers to be antagonistic rather than sociable, delighting in playing fun little games with others for her enjoyment. She is impatient and easily angered, as well as infuriatingly stubborn and outspoken. Developing strong relationships isn’t a priority for her. If she does happen to like someone then she’ll mark them as an ally, but she’ll rarely initiate further deepening of the relationship. As such, her friendships tend to be fleeting, unless the object of her fondness happens to be particularly persistent. She’s condescending and selfish, but will come to the aid of others if they desperately need it. She’s diligent in looking out for the squadron of Grunts under her control, even if she does have a tendency to force her paperwork on them and blame them for her own screw-ups. If somebody helps her out or shows her kindness and therefore earns her trust then she’ll be guaranteed to remember their actions, and is fiercely loyal to the rare few people whom she truly regards as friends.
Clarissa suffers from delusions of grandeur; her confidence in herself greatly exceeds her actual skill, which in reality is pretty unremarkable. She holds the unshakeable belief that she is outstanding at what she does, and sees herself as far more superior than those ranked above her. What’s more, she’s audacious enough to voice this opinion openly. As a Grunt she was as likely to pick fights with the Admins as she was with the fellow Rockets in her rank. The fearless sarcasm she displayed towards her bosses earned her more than her fair share of trouble, and both respect and hatred from her peers. Now an Admin, Clarissa has calmed down slightly, but is still reckless in how she relates to her superiors. The only saving grace that keeps her from being stripped of her position is that she’s intelligent enough to know to keep her mouth shut and follow orders when it matters, however reluctantly. Her exploits often go awry, usually due to having been poorly planned and rashly executed on impulse, or foiled by her own clumsiness.
Clarissa hates pokemon trainers with a passion. She thinks of them as pathetic, self-righteous, cocky individuals who are blindly following the same pointless dream, and loathes them greatly. She loves nothing better than to cause trouble for them - one of the joys of being a Team Rocket member is that she gets the opportunity to do this often, much to her delight. She’s distrustful of them, partly because they’re distrustful of her in return, partly because her values clash so starkly with theirs. Everything about what she sees as their high-and-mighty mindsets and ideals aggravates her.
Balance, grace, and sturdiness have never been Clarissa’s forte. She is horrifically clumsy, and is constantly dropping things, tripping over her own feet or stumbling into her own traps. Her frequent incidents earn her a lot of public humiliation, as well as very many injuries. Clarissa is forever covered in bandages and cuts. She has several scars, has broken each of her arms and legs at least once each, and has dislocated her left shoulder twice. Oddly, she has a remarkable tolerance towards more serious injuries such as broken bones and severe cuts, but minor injuries such as scraped knees or a misadventure into stinging nettles will bring her to tears. She’ll always deny it when she’s crying, though, giving some poor excuse such as claiming to have dust in her eyes. She hates to be seen as weak or vulnerable. If anybody suggests she’s anything but tough you can guarantee she’ll become very angry at them.
When it comes to pokemon battles, Clarissa is reasonably skilled. Her pokemon aren’t the toughest, but she knows how to handle them. Her team’s attack isn‘t fantastic, but this is made up for by their hardiness. Clarissa trained them to be sturdy in the face of hard-hitting attacks and to maintain their stamina when low on health, a quality she learned herself from having to cope with untreated injuries for long periods of time whilst on field missions. She can be a good strategist at times, but this quality falls by the wayside in the face of her overconfidence and rashness in decision making, which often leads to her downfall in battle.
-Background:
Clarissa’s reason for joining Team Rocket was a simple one: boredom. Clarissa had a very sheltered and uncomplicated childhood. She grew up in the household of a well-off middle class family in Saffron City, as the over-protected only child of a Silph Co. researcher and his wife. She had a comfortable lifestyle and a good education at one of Saffron’s renowned trainer’s schools. Clarissa’s position was doubtlessly a fortunate one, but as she grew older she quickly became deeply frustrated by the perceived monotony of her existence. Her life seemed to be caught on a one-way track - it seemed inevitable that she would graduate from her education and become a pokemon trainer, just as her parents desired, setting out on the same path that so many people had walked before her, all aiming towards the same goal. Clarissa hated the idea of it. Her peers spoke endlessly of their desires to travel with pokemon and achieve the fame and reverence held only by those who manage to fight their way to the level of Pokemon Champion, but Clarissa wanted no part of it. She saw the journey of being a pokemon trainer as futile and stifling. She had no wish to train pokemon, nor to explore the world, and wanted to break free from this seemingly set-in stone conclusion that had been picked out for her in favour of something a little more...deviant.
On the week of her tenth birthday, when she became the legal age to be allowed to leave school and set out as a trainer, control of Saffron City’s biggest industry, Silph Co. was seized by Team Rocket. As men in black uniforms patrolled her home city, Clarissa dared to venture outside of the city parameters to hide from her parents, who were ready to send her off to Pallet Town to begin her new life as a trainer. Upon straying into the long grass she was cornered by several vicious pokemon, completely undefended and unable to escape. A boy in a Rocket uniform, only a few years older than herself, defeated the attacking pokemon and saved her. Clarissa ended up falling for her rescuer, and all of a sudden the path she should choose was becoming excitingly apparent. Swayed by the actions of this kind person, and captivated by the stories he told of the daring adventures and constant danger that accompanied the Rocket lifestyle, she decided that she wanted to enlist too. The boy gifted her with a pokemon, a Clefairy, one of the many pokemon stolen from Silph Co., and was gone, leaving Clarissa knowing which direction she should take.
Clarissa played along with her parent’s wishes for a while until she was sure Clefairy was sufficiently trained, and applied to Team Rocket in hope of finding adventure and once again meeting her crush. Ten years on, Clarissa is still there, having finally been promoted to Admin status at eighteen-years-old. She’s still yet to meet her childhood sweetheart, and has reluctantly come to accept that she might never see him again, but she’s still clinging onto hope and continuing to search regardless.
Her position as Admin involves executing minor schemes such as heists and takeovers, directing the small group of Grunts that are under her control, and creating diversions to distract or hinder any annoying pests who might try to interfere whilst the Executives handle the vitally important missions. There’s also the paperwork on the results of each mission that needs completing and submitting to Administration, but Clarissa hates such menial duties and usually manages to blackmail one of the smarter Grunts into handling it for her.
-Pokemon:
Clefairy
Gender: Female
Obtained: Gift
Info: Clarissa’s beloved first pokemon given to her by the male Team Rocket member ten years ago. Clarissa and Clefairy share a very close bond, and the small pink pokemon prefers riding around on her mistress’s shoulder to being kept in her pokeball. Clefairy are usually friendly, peaceful creatures, but this one is just as moody and irate as her mistress, and has a mean scowl identical to Clarissa’s. She has been known to take a bite out of strangers and assists Clarissa in conducting her devious schemes.
Attacks: Swift, Metronome, Meteor Mash, Pound
Blastoise
Gender: Male
Obtained: Stolen
Info: A pokemon Clarissa stole from a trainer whilst still a Grunt. She kept her catch a secret from her bosses and pocketed the powerful creature for herself. She often tells of the epic circumstances in which she caught it, but what she doesn’t tend to admit is that it's only recently that Blastoise that has started to obey her. Blastoise still seems to hold a vague resentment towards Clarissa for stealing him away from his original trainer, so the two are usually at odds with each other.
Attacks: Hydro Pump, Skull Bash, Rapid Spin, Protect
Electrode
Gender: Genderless
Obtained: Issued by Team Rocket
Info: A pokemon that was issued to Clarissa when she first joined Team Rocket. Not particularly powerful, but agile and useful for situations in battle where speed is required. It has a jolly nature and is generally pretty laid-back, even when under great pressure.
Attacks: Rollout, Magnet rise, Spark, Screech
Haunter
Gender: Female
Obtained: Caught as a Gastly at Pokemon Tower
Info: The only pokemon in Clarissa's party that she caught in the wild and raised from scratch. Clarissa is reluctant to let Haunter out of her pokeball very often outside of battle, as the mischievous ghost-type loves nothing better than to torment and play tricks on her. To Haunter, this is her way of showing her affection for Clarissa, but Clarissa interprets it as Haunter just trying to be an annoyance.
Attacks: Lick, Sucker Punch, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse
Magmar
Gender: Male
Obtained: Issued by Team Rocket
Info: The first of two pokemon assigned to Clarissa when she reached Admin status. Magma is very stubborn and headstrong and will occasionally disobey Clarissa and decide on its own attacks in battle.
Attacks: Fire Spin, Confuse Ray, Fire Punch, Smoke Screen
Pidgeot
Gender: Male
Obtained: Issued by Team Rocket
Info: The second pokemon assigned to Clarissa at Admin status. He's very protective of Clarissa and the other pokemon in her team, and is a proud and daring pokemon that tends to be reckless and is happy to take risks.
Attacks: Fly, Air Slash, Wing Attack, Quick Attack
-Variations specific only to the
pokeboxes dressing room:
(Players from other RPs should ignore this)
On Clarissa’s personal timeline, the events of pokeboxes are four years in the past; therefore Clarissa is still 16 years old. This is so Clarissa’s age and level of influence corresponds better with that of the majority of the other characters. (Her timeline matches that of her aged-by-four-years, trainer-come-Rocket rival, Keith (omgfirstkeith) at rocketdressing).Clarissa is still a hapless Grunt whose duties involve menial tasks such as petty theft and stealing pokemon from trainers. She is obsessed with trying to reach Admin status.
Clarissa only has her first three pokemon: Clefairy, Blastoise and Electrode.
She’s still unshakably passionate about tracking down the male Rocket from six years ago.
Clarissa is...pretty useless. Even more so than usual, I mean. Definitely not a srs bsns character.
Everything else about her appearance, background and personality is still relevant. -Facts and Trivia:
Clarissa is ambidextrous; as she often ends up injuring her hands and fingers she gradually learned how to write well with both hands, though her handwriting when using her right hand is significantly messier than with her left.Clarissa fell into a pond as a child and nearly drowned. As a result she gets extremely anxious when out in deep water unless she has a pokemon with her. It doesn't have to be a water pokemon - Clefairy will do, she just gets panicky if she's left alone. She is only just a capable swimmer - certainly not a strong one.Her biggest fear is that one day she'll injure herself so badly that she'll never be able to bounce back from it. She tries not to dwell on the possibility too much, but it is definitely a large concern for her that plagues on her mind greatly. When in a fight, Clarissa prefers to use her own hands and feet as opposed to weapons. She takes great satisfaction in knowing that the damage she causes to her opponent is her own handiwork, and dislikes causing grievous bodily harm to people outside of maybe breaking a few noses and knocking people for six. She's not a brilliant fighter - she's never had training in hand-to-hand combat, so her attacks are limited mostly to crude punches and kicks and she isn't very strong, but she's surprisingly quick on her feet. Her parents have no idea that their precious only daughter is a Rocket; they believe Clarissa works in the Saffron City department store and trains pokemon part-time. There would be hell to pay if they were to discover Clarissa's true occupation. It took Clarissa a full eight years to finally get promoted to the level of Rocket Admin, a fact that she gets very defensive about. Feel free to tease her about it.Clarissa is reasonably respectful towards her pokemon. She doesn't believe in babying or spoiling them, and gets annoyed when she sees trainers acting all cutesy to their pokemon or treating them as pets, believing such behaviour to be incredibly patronising. She treats her pokemon as equals to herself; she is strict and sometimes rather rude to them, but always treats them kindly. Her pokemon often become exasperated with her attitude and methods, but revere and trust their mistress unreservedly. Clarissa doesn't care very much for the well-being of any pokemon other than her own, so she's pretty indifferent about Team Rocket's deviant treatment of pokemon.
