What do you think about Socialism? Without any additional research right now, what background knowledge do you have on the topic? Any connotation attached to the word?
Socialism has a few bad connotations in my mind, mainly that you can't control how the government handles your personal situation, less freedom of choice, and that certain people who don't contribute to society would benefit from socialism more than others.
Mostly when I think of it, I think of social health care, as that is probably the biggest reason people would want it.
I don't really have any background knowledge about it....
Socialism, like communism, utilitarianism, etc. are all ideas that sound nice on paper and call for equal rights for everyone held under a state but humans simply don't work that way. Laws may be solid and stable, but people aren't. And most don't really enjoy the feeling of being sheep, which is such the way that socialism treats them. Then governments become afraid of too many people revolting against the things they got tired of and proceed to use excessive force under fear of being overturned. Hooray for pretty much every totalitarian regime that ever existed.
Thanks you two for your comments. They DO help! :) I was just looking for a "public" opinion, and I asked some people at work and got some good feedback too.
And yes, Jon, I saw you in JJ's too but you were not looking at me while I tried to catch your attention for a minute. Sorry!
