The Navy is investigating the well-established reports of a massacre of 15+ Iraqi civilians in Haditha by Marines back in November.

And now there are reports of another massacre -- eleven civilians, including four children and a baby -- in Balad on Wednesday.

Yes, I suppose I made a rather gentle understatement there.

And now I'm thinking of Tim O'Brien's writings on the massacres ... he writes about it in a way that really, in his words, "squeezes the heart." (He spoke at Witt last fall, and taught my English class. It was amazing.)
