the was this king...claudis i think and he declared that no one was allowed to be married anymore because married men didnt want to go off and join the army. but Sir/ Saint or whatever valentine kept marrying people in private. so the king dude locked him up and was going to kell him on February 14th of all days and before he was killed he sent his daughter(i think) a card/letter that said " love from your valentine" thus valentines day....
