Red light cameras in Maryland failed to reduce accidents in five years of use. A set of five cameras were set up in the state in 2000, but a comparison of accident statistics five years before and five years after their installation shows accidents have increased beyond the ten percent increase in traffic volume ( Read more... )

You almost make it sound as if the the cameras are to blame for the accidents, as opposed to the shitty drivers that are out there. :P I do agree that the cameras don't really do anything, in terms of catching these knuckleheads. It takes a lot of man power to go over these tapes, let alone, pursue people who are caught running lights.

On a side note, my roommate explained to me that there isn't a state law in Rhode Island where a new driver must have a certain amount of driving hours prior to his/her license being issued. This absolutely blew my mind! No wonder there are so many bad drivers around here!
