Jimin has a rather annoying habit of eating pocky. Or Yoongi thinks so at least.
Yoongi could say that he didn't have a lot of pet peeves. He hated wearing caps or snapbacks on hot days. He hated when his group members took their sneakers off after practice and made the air in the practice room unfit for breathing. He hated holes in his underwear. He hated pulp in his orange juice. These were all minor things, so his life was pretty straightforward. Straightforward, and simple.
It's not as simple when he discovers that Jimin has a rather peculiar way of eating food. Well, not food really, but his favourite brand of pocky.
"I didn't know they sold these at the convenience store near here!" Jimin says one day, barging into the dorm, two red boxes of pocky in his hand. His dorm-mates look up from their respective distractions and look at their newly arrived group member.
Namjoon clicks his tongue disapprovingly but doesn't say anything more. They're all supposed to be on a diet, but out of all of them, there's a reason why Jimin does the most ab flashing on stage. A little extra calories won't make any noticeable difference.
The others aren't particularly interested in Jimin's pocky, except for Jeongguk who only has one every now and then. This leaves Jimin with just enough to stuff himself silly every time he gets the chance.
It's not like Yoongi pays extra attention to Jimin or anything. In his defense, it's hard to not notice Jimin's eating habits, especially since he's eating the stupid things all the damn time. Yoongi isn't even fond of pocky, and he can't fathom why Jimin eats them like they won't be there sitting on the kitchen counter tomorrow. Or the day after that. He doesn't even eat them properly. Instead of biting it off piece by piece like a normal human, he sucks the chocolate off and then eats the stick. Yoongi's never seen anything so stupid in his life.
What makes it even more infuriating is that Jimin always makes a huge mess of his face and gets crumbs everywhere, and apparently doesn't believe in using napkins. Pocky isn't even that messy to eat, so Yoongi doesn't really understand how Jimin manages to get it all over his face. Yoongi has witnessed Jimin absentmindedly licking crumbs off of his mouth too many times to stay sane. He hopes the convenience store fucking goes out of business.
Hoseok looks at him like he's crazy when he brings it up one day.
"You have a problem with how Jiminnie eats? And you thought it would be necessary to come talk to me about it?" Hoseok looks incredulous. And also highly amused.
Yoongi glares at him.
"You don't understand! He doesn't even eat them properly, it's so stupid. I've had to wait on how many different occasions for him to stop chewing so I could get a damn word in, and if i see him use his tongue to clean his face one more time I'm sending myself to an asylum. Or spraying him with a hose. Or both."
Hoseok stares at him for a long time. Then he bursts into laughter.
Yoongi glares even more in annoyance. "It's a serious problem."
Hoseok is still laughing. Yoongi considers how effective punching Hoseok in his stupid face to get him to shut up will be. Thankfully, before any permanent damage is done to Hoseok's features, he stops laughing.
"You realise how silly that is right? I think that's a problem you should take up with him and not me, hyung."
Yoongi pulls Hoseok's beanie over his eyes and holds it there, mumbling about useless dongsaengs. Hoseok laughs and swats at Yoongi's hands.
Yoongi, of course, does not go to Jimin about this "problem", instead choosing to pointedly glare at Jimin every time he caught him eating his beloved pocky. Of course, Jimin never notices, far too busy multitasking eating and playing whatever video game he's managed to pawn off of Seokjin or Namjoon. Hoseok, on the other hand always notices Yoongi's glaring and has to move to the next room for fear of laughing too hard and alerting Jimin to Yoongi's glares.
If Jimin notices Yoongi abusing Hoseok as he attempts to escape the area, he doesn't say anything.
Yoongi had offered to sit down and help Jimin with his homework, and Jimin had agreed happily. Which means that Yoongi had actually threatened Jimin to sit down and do his damn homework while Yoongi supervised like the good hyung he was. Of course, this gave Jimin the perfect opportunity to snack. (Any time that wasn't for practice or recording was snack time in Jimin's eyes.)
The two were seated at a small table, where Jimin produced a box of pocky out of nowhere.
"Fucking shit where does he even get the money to buy those things." Yoongi thought. That had better not be coming out of their food money for the rest of the month.
Jimin was too busy happily munching away at his pocky to notice Yoongi having an aneurism.Things go relatively smooth after that. Jimin occasionally looks up from his homework to ask Yoongi if he could go play video games or take a nap instead. Yoongi in reply would tell him to quiet down and continue working until he was finished. After five such inquiries by Jimin over the course of half an hour, Jimin finally shuts up after he realises that Yoongi isn't going to budge and let him do what he wants.
Yoongi patiently watches Jimin as he does his homework. It's quiet, and Yoongi thinks Jimin has actually gotten somewhere when Jimin looks up.
"Hyung." Jimin says.
Yoongi raises an eyebrow and looks at Jimin and oh dear god there's pocky crumbs all over his mouth. Yoongi's eye twitches.
"Yeah?"
"Is there any reason you've been staring at me so much lately?"
Yoongi had been ready to make some sort of threat/comment about burning all the video games in their dorm if Jimin had continued to nag him about not doing his homework. However, he hadn't been expecting that.
Hoseok hadn't been quiet at all, or maybe his attempt to bore holes into Jimin's forehead with his eyes alone the past few days hadn't actually gone unnoticed.
To be honest, Jimin had meant it as an innocent question. He didn't really understand why Yoongi had gone silent all of a sudden, and was just staring at him. The silence was a bit awkward, and the longer Yoongi stared at him the more uncomfortable Jimin began to feel. He could feel himself start to blush, so he eventually gave up and decided to get back to working on his homework.
Meanwhile Yoongi had no idea what to say in response. It was fairly easy enough, the answer. "Jimin I've been staring at you because I noticed that the way you eat pocky is annoying as hell and also kind of fucking stupid." Easy. But when he looked back and thought about it, he realised that Hoseok had actually been right. It was silly. It was a lot more than silly.
Had he actually been annoyed about the way Jimin ate pocky? For days? A week?
Wow.
"Park Jimin." he said.
Jimin looked up again. Of course, there was a stick of pocky in his mouth, and crumbs all over his face.
"Yes?"
Yoongi had no idea why he had decided to do this, but hey he had made a fool of himself enough that week. He reached over the table and brought his face close to Jimin's. Jimin's eyes widened. Yoongi bit the end of the pocky stick hanging out of Jimin's mouth. He then grabbed the box of pocky off of the table and shoved it under his arm. Jimin continued to stare at him, mouth half open in shock.
"Finish your homework and you can get this back." Yoongi said, pointing to the box.
With that, Yoongi stands up and walks away from the table, leaving Jimin more than a little confused.
Yoongi bumps into Hoseok as he leaves the room. Hoseok looks at him and raises an eyebrow, then down at the box of pocky neatly tucked under Yoongi's arm, then back up at Yoongi. He then looks over Yoongi's shoulder at Jimin, who's face is quickly reddening, eyes still wide.
"I'm guessing you solved your problem?" Hoseok asks.
Yoongi shrugs. He takes a stick of pocky from the box and sticks it in his mouth. Pocky isn't that bad he decides.
