elaboration on fighting

Everyone in the World has a class, and every class has their own weapon. Fighting with said weapon raises your class skill, which is independent of your character level and is raised more slowly. At certain levels with the weapon, you get new special attacks, called Arts similar to the system used in Final Fantasy Tactics, except that skills learned is determined by proficiency with weapon. Unless you're a Adept Rouge: in which case, you can choose up to three styles to learn. The first is free, and the second two come from Job Extension quests. (Haseo is Special and has Zelkova on his side, so he has four.)

Pi is a Tribal Grappler. They have a very high hit rate, and use gauntlets as weapons that usually perform multiple hits at once after the first hit. They're stated out to have very high HP, but low defense and they use the lightest armor in the game, and generally move fast. Hitting people very fast is a good skill in .hack//G.U., as it helps you bring off a Rengeki, which is when you get to perform an Art on a stunned enemy. Do that or heal enough times and you have the party's morale high enough to do an Awaking, which is a special attack that can do a couple of different things, depending on what you want to do, including stunning the enemy, performing a massive magical attack, or do other nifty shiny things with the other two people in your party.

(You can also gain scrolls for spells, attack and healing, but really, Pi only has the Lao Repth and the Rip Maen spells -350 HP heal and Resurrect With 25% HP, respectively-memorized, since she's not really the long distance fighter type. )

She has her level five Lost Weapon gauntlets with her because she's taken from the endgame (and why not?). They look kind of like this, and to anyone with special sensing skills, contain a fragment or echo of the soul of one Jun Basoya, also known as Pi's big brother. And they have the ability to paralyze and have an improved crit range. The full specs are here, for the curious.
