the driftless area huh? it's good to know the name for a place that i like so much. not that i've ever actually visited. the greyhound i take from rochester, minnesota to madison goes through this area. it's always my favorite part of the trip. rolling through the deep road cuts and winding through the deep valleys. it really does look a little like appalachia.
also, crossing the mississippi is probably one of the things that i'm going to miss most about living in the midwest. it's so reassuring. when you cross the mississippi you always know exactly where you are.
hi erin! you're right, there's something about bodies of water that mean so much in terms of location for land people, in the same way i imagine bodies of land mean much for sea people. lake michigan is always a great compass for navigation. and yeah, the driftless area is preety amazing.
