Nov 15, 2010 02:07

It's November 15 in my side of the world (GMT +8:00), and we're "officially" opening the comm. The pre-opening was to see if anyone had questions or complaints that we could deal with before the official sign ups, but as most of you already know, we already sent invites to people who signed up so that we don't have backlog ( Read more... )

What started you on avatar? I read a lot of anti-racism and feminist blogs, and so I first took note of the series during the "Last Airbender" movie controversy. While lamenting how bad the film was, a lot of writers and commenters also raved about the original series, saying it was both beautiful and entertaining while also featuring strong, non-stereotypical female and Asian lead characters, intelligent historical and aesthetic references, and engaging ideas of non-violence, friendship and loyalty in a complex, nuanced way. So, I initially came to the series from a slightly academic level. I kind of watched it noncommittally at first, and didn't really become 100% hooked until "Zuko Alone." Season 3 totally sealed the deal for me!

Have you participated in other big bangs? Nope!

Have you written/drawn for other series? When I was much younger I wrote for the Buffy and Harry Potter fandoms....but if there's residue of that online, I'm not doing to dig it up. ;D

Where do you store your other fanfiction/fanart? My Deviantart ... )

Oooh, that's the most surprising answer to the start of fandom yet. :) I wrote a piece If I were to re-cast Avatar: the Last Airbender for fun here in LJ and my friend azure_orbis and I almost got into a fight due to my casting. She was upset with my cast, but we all straightened it out in the end.

Buffy! I secretly read Spike/Xander stopped watching after Dawn was proclaimed the Key, and was surprised that Spike ended up with Buffy! (I all found this out through Archive of Our Own... that's an amazing site right there... haha) So two weeks ago, I went and downloaded the ending seasons and am planning tow atch it... when I'm not too busy.

You can always leave suggestions, nudges and hints :p

An epic-post series Maiko. *crosses fingers* Yes that would be a nice thing to read. :) Difficult to write, but nice to read.

I had a hard time watching Buffy after the fifth season, to be honest--it kind of broke my heart all over the place! It felt like the show I had fallen in love with was splintering apart (I won't go into specifics since you haven't see the later seasons yet!). But objectively, I think that was one of Buffy's (and Joss Whedon's) strengths: nothing was safe or sacred, everything changes, including the characters I came to care so much for.

okay. Will watch and talk to you about it after I watch the show. It may take a while I'm currently playing FFXIII, moding, working, writing a fic... uhm... hmmm... haha. Watching buffy is not in the priority list.

What started you on avatar?
Nickelodeon--fell in love with it while Season One was airing.

Have you participated in other big bangs?
I drew two pieces for one fic this round of ATLA Big Bang.

Have you written/drawn for other series?
I've drawn for just about every series I've been interested in at one point or another. Anime/manga fanart is how I began my original interest in drawing over TEN YEARS AGO. Now I'm working on an M.F.A., and I still draw fanart in my free time. I've written for Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, and Sorcerer Hunters (but the SH stuff never saw the light of the internet day.

Where do you store your other fanfiction/fanart?
DeviantArt for art and fanfiction.net for fics (note: my account used to be "Lord of the Ramen", but I recently changed it to "Flawney", since I use that everywhere else)

Do you already have an idea of what to do for this big bang?
Nope. Since I'm just going to be drawing, the subject matter depends entirely on the fic. But it's pretty safe to assume some Maiko hotness ;)

Do you have ( ... )

M.F.A.?? Sorry I don't get the reference. I remember when I read Sailor Moon.... I usually stuck to silver millenium fics. I really can't stand Usagi otherwise. I read some fics due to my sister being a kid when it was airing and she absolutely loved the show.

M.F.A. = Master of Fine Arts degree.

Usagi (and most of the rest of the cast) have better characterization in the manga than in the anime. When I write (or draw) Sailor Moon, it's almost always from the manga canon.

oh really? Wow that's great. Sometimes I wish I just got a writing degree instead of a chemistry one.

I don't have the manga, I don't know if there are still scanlations for SM I mean it was licensed pretty early. So you know? I can't get original SM here. It make sense that they have better characters in manga, it is usually the case.

What started you on avatar? I watched it from the first day it aired on Nickelodeon!

Have you participated in other big bangs? Not really, no.

Have you written/drawn for other series? Many times!

Where do you store your other fanfiction/fanart? Most of my fic is at shewhohathapen. The rest is at my fic index.

Do you already have an idea of what to do for this big bang? Maaaaaybe. I have a lot of AU ideas floating around in my head, but I might do something post-canon. IDK.

Do you have ideas for the big bang that you want someone to write, but you can't? Haha probably the post-series one! I JUST WRITE ABOUT FEELINGS OKAY.

Do you want to say something else? I AM HIGHLY EXCITED FOR THIS ENDEAVOR.

I can't imagine WAITING for all of the episodes now that I think about it. :) I'm probably going to end up buying season 3 just tow watch it all over again... but for now... streaming videos.

Me too, extremely excited. I've met a lot of people through maizuko and thanks for the community, by the way. :) I flipped through the older entries and realized there was much more activity when the series was on going, it's sad I missed that. :)

I'm stupid and didn't see this until now.

What started you on avatar?
the_flowergirl!! She wouldn't stop pestering me to see it, because she figured it would be right up my alley (she was right). I was reluctant, and it wasn't until the first season finale that I realised how right she was. Since then, I've been hooked.

Have you participated in other big bangs?
Yus - I wrote a Maiko fic for avatarbigbang

Have you written/drawn for other series?
Yep! I write for Slayers, Scrapped Princess, and Shadow Raiders, but never a big bang for either.

Where do you store your other fanfiction/fanart?
Omoni_scribbles

Do you already have an idea of what to do for this big bang?
Yes! I wrote the summary and some plot-points a few days ago =D

Do you have ideas for the big bang that you want someone to write, but you can't?
No x.x

Do you want to say something else?
You are an awesome possum, iCe, for orchestrating this! <3

That's okay, there's no rush to comment in this :) It's just so everyone mingles. Net ice breaker. Haha.

Haha, thanks. I didn't actually think we'd reach 14 authors.... that was unexpected. I was just going for ten. But I am aware that some big bangs have like hundreds. I saw spn and that was 200!!! OMG! (I do not envy the mods) haha. Now to get a way to get more artists. -_-; always a difficulty.

Uhm, well...I can scribble a little, so if worst comes to worst I can apply for an artist, but I'm not very good =X

Don't worry about it. We'll figure something out :) I don't want to force people to do stuff. I have a general idea of what to do if worst comes to worst. :) Besides a lot of the artist are okay with going for another match up.

What started you on avatar? The first time I heard of it was actually a blog post about the movie casting. I was curious, so I checked out the DVDs and was hooked immediately.

Have you participated in other big bangs? Yes. I wrote for the avatarbigbang that ran over the summer, hosted by avocado_love. I did a story about Mai and Ty Lee's time in prison.

Have you written/drawn for other series? Nope. I just haven't had the itch to write stuff for anything else.

Where do you store your other fanfiction/fanart? LJ.

Do you already have an idea of what to do for this big bang? I have a very vague and amorphous idea that I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with yet.

Do you have ideas for the big bang that you want someone to write, but you can't? Not that I can think of.

Do you want to say something else? Hi!

I guess a bad movie is still good publicity!

The ava bigbang! I should actually finish reading there. I haven't yet. -.- Bad me.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

There are a lot of crack ships, so I figured there was room in the fandom for a crack friendship. ;)
